Brighter Backup Lights

I mounted some rigid ignite series in a diy plastic cut out. Tapped into the trailer harness with a 1 second delay relay (doesn’t light up when shifting from park to drive… must be in reverse for a moment), with a manual override switch.

spot light on the passenger side, flood diffused on driver- works great in the mirrors and wonderful in the camera as well.

I wired these up to my trigger 6 unit. These three have duel purpose. When I active my rear emergency road side recovery strobes the two up top are solid red flood. The one at the bottom strobes amber/clear. I also have a strobe light bar up top between the two lights.

When I need more solid flood lighting for backing up, a different switch just has them as solid clear.

Ordered the Oracle lights after I backed into a Toyota parked in the dark. $2600 lesson learned.

It's here somewhere..........
I ran a wire back from my aux switch terminal block next to the battery to a diode behind the right tail light.
I modified the Oracle plug and play harness so the power from that went to another leg on the diode array.
Then a wire from the "out" of the diode goes to the bumper backup lights.

This is how it would look "schematically speaking"

My mod to the harness - the single red wire on the right comes from the diode "out" and runs to the Oracle harness that goes to the lights.
The wire on the left going up goes from the Oracle plug and play harness to one of the diode "inputs".
I left the Oracle light ground lead in this pigtail alone.

I tidied it up a bit from this.............. the white wire is what comes from the aux switch wiring up by the battery (where I have a terminal block)

This might be kind of a dumb question, but I notice that Oracle also sells high power bulbs for the existing back-up lights.

Will those give me substantially more light than the stock backup bulbs, or do I need to go for the bumper lights?

If you have the standard (non-LED) lights, replacing the backup bulbs with LED bulbs will make a difference. If it's still not enough, then add one of the available bumper options.

Thanks, the link goes to a sold out harness, but if you go to sellers other items, its relisted at a higher price... almost $90($84.) seems high for a simple harness/relay.

You can make one for less than half that if you have the tools. At the prior price point, it was nearly a wash. Wonder what happened?

Nope and they offer a plug and play harness if you opt for it

Not sure, but the original wasn't much cheaper... it was $69. Plus $10+ shipping.
Im not sure how much the parts cost wholesale... but can't be $60 -70... ?

Since there's hardly any draw to the license plate lights, you can use a really small relay and save money. There's no reason to run a full-size, multi-amp relay on that setup.

maybe someone can come up with a parts list / build instructions... then they just need to come install it for me... ?
Seriously though, I would need detailed information inorder to purchase, build and install... but I wouldn't have thought it should cost over $30 for the pre-built harness, but that doesn't seem to be the case...
Looking at the Oracle reverse led lights like you/others have posted about... but it would be nice for the oem tag light to go out when reve

I wired mine in so they come on in reverse, and also to one of the auxiliary switches so I can run them any time I want, even with the truck off and in park. (that's why you don't see the factory tail and backup lights on in this pic)
They come on with the factory reverse lights, or when I use an aux switch to turn them on.

I've had these in two JTs now and would do it again.

This picture was taken about mid-morning with the morning sun shining in that east window and the garage lights on. What you see is the white shadow cast by the Oracle backup lights in my JT's bumper sitting about 20 feet in front of the car.

So did you tap into the taillights and use the Oracle harness to run them in reverse OR DID YOU simply ground at the bumper and tap into your trailer connection (without using Oracles harness )?

For the Aux switch:
Did you ground at the bumper and then just run a long possitive to one of your Aux leads under the hood ?
