I just set mine to Aux 3, I didn't want mine to come on automatically w reverse.

You just run a hot off the aux 3, run it under the truck down the frame to the light, there is a ground right by the spare tire heat shield.

When I need/want them I hit 3.

Just what I'm going to do. Got my Oracle rear bumper lights last week while out of town. Installed them today but didn't have time to wire yet. Will be running them to an aux switch as well and don't care for them to come on with reverse lights. Had this same setup on my last truck and loved it. It's also nice to flash someone when the are riding your ass.

It seems high, but you're paying for his time and experience. The mating connectors to match the factory harness, and the crimping tools, are not cheap. I could easily make one, but time is limited and then I would end up with extra parts and tools for a single project that would just sit on a shelf. I'm as much a cheapskate as anyone (maybe more), but I finally broke down and ordered one. It came to $89.65 with tax and shipping.
how does it connect ? how is it working out for you ?

Pull left tail light, disconnect factory tail light connector, plug a pigtail between the two sides you just unplugged, mount the relay up in the tail light cavity.
The rest of the wires would drop down and there's another connector on top of the left frame rail near the spare tire - disconnect that connector and plug into those parts you just unplugged.
So there's a relay and connector set back of the left tail light and pair of leads that go down to the license plate light connector on the frame.
It's simple as heck.
Using a small low amp relay would make the relay part so small it could be wrapped right into the wiring that connects to the truck's tail light harnesses. I've got relays that would handle the load that are only as big around as a finger. They'd wrap up great right in with the wiring.

Thanks.. It did not look very long on the eBay listing. (got a pic of the low amp relay you have spoken about )?

It would have been/would be nice if someone like @Mr Bill took detailed pics of the harness and outlined the parts needed to make it... I have the tools and various connectors already, would only need to purchase the oem compatible plugs and relay... maybe like Mr. Bill, I might have to breakdown and purchase one... I hate it because I have plenty of time to DIY.

I just paid for it yesterday, should be here by the end of the week. I'll take pictures when I install it.
One could save some time and order the Oracle plug and play harness and have the tail light side of things all done - then you'd only need a relay, some wire and the connectors for the license plate connector side of things.

I think this is it..... It's the male and female connector on top of the left frame rail, next to the spare tire shield and handles the license plate lights.

Thanks bud, that's awesome of you to do. Hopefully there will be part #'s or identifying marks on the components... if not, I might end up right behind you with an order. Hopefully it works out well for you. ?

There are a lot of great suggestions ITT, and I personally do want a pair of the oracle back up lights!

But the real answer is to get a tazer so that it blacks out the license plate lights when in reverse. That in itself will be a GREAT improvement in your backup camera quality at night.
Only problem with this is ... that function is a "LIVE" function. Many people do not want to leave the Tazer plugged in.(atleast I don't) this is why we are looking at a harness that taps into the tail light system and controls the license plate lights with a relay.

I was planning on using the Oracle "plug & play" harness. I believe You are onto something with this... great idea/point.
It will be great when @Mr. Bill receives his and is able to take detailed pictures of the components and the construction of the complete harness.
We should be able to fill in the blanks once he does.

So to help me understand more about the relay function.... does it connect to the "switched hot" of the tail light... and when it receives voltage from the tail light, it then switches "OFF" the voltage going to the license plate lights ? Im not sure exactly how you go about choosing the correct relay ? Any help is appreciated.

The license plate lights are connected through the normally closed relay contacts. The reverse line is used to activate the relay and break the contact. It's a simple circuit, but it takes some work to do it clean so there's no damage to the factory harness.
