I'm appreciating this thread - thank you all. I too struggle with poor visibility in reverse, esp when there is dust or debris on the camera (they should have added the 'wash camera' feature to the rear camera as well). Anyway, considered Tazr to kill the license plate lights, but for $300+, was an expensive option as I don't anticipate using much of any of the other features it offers.

I just ordered the Oracle reverse lights with a plan to wire them to the aux switch (gotta use these switches for something!).

This idea of adding a relay or something to kill the license plate lights in reverse is great. If anyone has a detailed step by step guide on how to do this, I'd have the wombo-combo with Oracle option plus no license plate lights in reverse.

Thats what we are working on... there is an eBay member selling a pre-made harness, but it will set you back $90.

I needed to check my pond overflow pipe the other night after a huge rain, so I parked the Mojave in the yard and had my wife put it in reverse. Stock Mojave LED backup lights.

Obviously the stock Mojave LED backup lights are a lot better than the Overland LED backup lights.

By the way, if you want an economical way to turn off the license plate lights while backing up, you can turn off the headlights while you’re backing up.

I don’t have too much problems backing up other than backing up my winding driveway at night. There’s usually not too much contrast between the driveway and the surrounding area. I discovered that the lack of contrast was the problem recently when the driveway was clear and the surrounding area was covered in snow. It was easy to see where I was going, even with the low lumen back up lights.

I had the Oracale back up lights on order , but the tails came out and I cancelled the backup lights to try the flush tail lights and have been very happy for a couple years now, very bright reverse lights, very low profile, much better visibility of running, turn and brake lights. Much more side visibility then factory also ,plus no wiring switches or anything else…..Jack

Bingo - lack of contrast is the biggest issue when backing up in the dark.
I use reflective fiberglass driveway markers in the winter as a clean driveway doesn't look that much different from the snow in the dark when backing up.

Only problem with this is ... that function is a "LIVE" function. Many people do not want to leave the Tazer plugged in.(atleast I don't) this is why we are looking at a harness that taps into the tail light system and controls the license plate lights with a relay.
My Jeep got presents for my 30th anniversary (way better than my wife’s ring!). Ironically, I got a Tazer and the Oracle back-up lights. This thread is perfect.

Question: why wouled you not want to leave the Tazer plugged in? Potential battery draw or another issue?

Second question for the general group: I like the idea of having the lights come on when I back-up and also wiring to Aux3 so I can set up fishing pre-dawn. I am not an electrician. Is there a website or YouTube video recommended to do both without setting my Jeep on fire?

Agreed—great thread. I bit the bullet on the Tazer since it had multiple things I wanted. The license plate light kill in reverse was one of them. I have had three back surgeries so a back-up camera is waaaaaay easier than twisting around. Same reason I got the Oracle lights as well as the safety package. Mobility sucks but I can still play OK golf so all good.

I drive on the beach a lot. If I am on a remote island, I air down. If I am on Bogue Banks where there are other drivers, I never air down but do disengage the rear diff. With a 2023 Mojave, that includes an annoying override at under 5 mph when getting on the beach and every time I restart the truck. It is supposed to be just a button push with Tazer. It arrives next week so I look forward to playing with it.

Depends on why you bought it in the first place.
Some only change some settings and there's zero reason to leave it in place.
Others bought it for live-only features - in those cases you must leave it in place for those features to work.
It's a multiple use tool and people use it in dozens of various, personal ways and reasons.
If I had bought one, like the dealer was talking to me about in the first couple months of ownership of buying - I'd not leave it plugged in because my only use would have been tire size changes, and TPMS thresholds.
I've done everything I need to do with other tools, so I don't worry about what to leave plugged in or not.

Some leave tazer plugged in, some do not.
But the company does advise - remove before dealer visits like I posted in other threads recently. That's the company saying that............

I did buy the easy extender wire to disconnect before dealer visits. I just want to know the risk of leaving in because I bought for live features vs static things like cha gong tire size (which may come later!)

Leaving the Tazer plugged in to access the live features is not going to kill your battery. There are numerous Jeep electrical programs that are always running in the background when you are shut down. I doubt another one like Tazer is going to cause issue.
