Since there's hardly any draw to the license plate lights, you can use a really small relay and save money. There's no reason to run a full-size, multi-amp relay on that setup.

maybe someone can come up with a parts list / build instructions... then they just need to come install it for me... ?
Seriously though, I would need detailed information inorder to purchase, build and install... but I wouldn't have thought it should cost over $30 for the pre-built harness, but that doesn't seem to be the case...
Looking at the Oracle reverse led lights like you/others have posted about... but it would be nice for the oem tag light to go out when reversing.

I just wired a bypass with a relay so that when the reverse lights come on, the license plate lights turn off. Makes a world of difference for about $15 in parts.

So did you tap into the taillights and use the Oracle harness to run them in reverse OR DID YOU simply ground at the bumper and tap into your trailer connection (without using Oracles harness )?

For the Aux switch:
Did you ground at the bumper and then just run a long possitive to one of your Aux leads under the hood ?

for the Oracle bumper backup lights -
I used the Oracle plug and play harness.
That gave me the ground for their lights (via the truck wiring) and the hot lead when in reverse.
The Oracle backup lights ground through the normal ground wire in the Oracle harness, thus the truck's harness.
I modified the Oracle harness to allow me to use my aux switch as well as their harness giving the reverse signal for the backup lights.

One could use the oracle harness as a place to connect to a relay to kill the license plate lights in reverse. With their harness, all you'd need is the connectors into the license plate light harness and a relay (again, a low current relay would be fine since the amperage is extremely low for those license plate lights)

Thanks... Im not new to wiring or adding simple accessories... but when including relays and diodes... things start getting a little cloudy for me. Maybe that makes the Ebay harness worth it... unless I am over thinking and making it harder than it has to be (famous for this. Ha ha)

The idea of the diode is so that when you power the lights via the aux switch, you don't feed back into the truck's backup light circuit.
Does it matter?

If you did it without diodes, you'd feed from the aux onto the power lead to the truck's backup lights and back into the BCM (I believe that's correct)

That was my big question too. I guess a diode wouldn't be much harder to install. I'm guessing you could use one(1) diode for both oracle leds... both led hots into the diode and one(1) single hot out to the aux switch ??‍?

When you say "back into the BCM" Body Control Model... could you possibly explain ?

I thought when connecting an accessory to the AUX panel, I just needed to ground to the body and connect a hot to one of my aux switches 1-4 ?

Inflation. I ordered a time delay relay last summer @$12…. Just ordered another one $29!!!!!!!! Buy commodities boys….. gold, silver, etc ?‍?

I’ll probably need to draw out what I am about to say…. (5 pin relay) So ? but with a relay- 12v in…. And then there are two signal in posts- totally separate, is the back feed/diode just a precaution or?

There are a lot of great suggestions ITT, and I personally do want a pair of the oracle back up lights!

But the real answer is to get a tazer so that it blacks out the license plate lights when in reverse. That in itself will be a GREAT improvement in your backup camera quality at night.

I just set mine to Aux 3, I didn't want mine to come on automatically w reverse.

You just run a hot off the aux 3, run it under the truck down the frame to the light, there is a ground right by the spare tire heat shield.

When I need/want them I hit 3.

Thanks, the link goes to a sold out harness, but if you go to sellers other items, its relisted at a higher price... almost $90($84.) seems high for a simple harness/relay.

It seems high, but you're paying for his time and experience. The mating connectors to match the factory harness, and the crimping tools, are not cheap. I could easily make one, but time is limited and then I would end up with extra parts and tools for a single project that would just sit on a shelf. I'm as much a cheapskate as anyone (maybe more), but I finally broke down and ordered one. It came to $89.65 with tax and shipping.

There are a lot of people that use and love the tazer…. I thought I did too, and I suppose I do like the ability to get the hot key/buttons on the steering wheel- sway bar disconnect in 2wd, ess/abs/traction control kill, and rear locker on/drift mode…..

But so many finicky bits with the radio, inconsistency's…. Recently picked up the jscan- way better setup for every day…..

Yeah, Although I agree with you... I would have to see the numbers to be talking actual facts, but IMO, time, materials and tools do not add up to $90. This guy, again IMO is being greedy and over charging. Based on his "other" items for sale, seems to point to them being a Jeep enthusiasts and possibly Veteran... which makes it worse... because they are taking advantage and gouging his extended Jeep family.

This seems to be the simplest way or just running it through the reverse... seems like when you try to do both is when it get a little more complicated.
