I upgrated the main battery to the larger H7 size and replaced the aux battery about a year ago. The aux is already on its way out. Both are Die hard batteries so the quality is alright. However, I'm wanting the delete the Aux battery instead of replacing it again.

What is the best way to delete the aux?

chase wires and cut out the cabling used for the aux battery. It has separate wires just all taped together to the main, so you just have to cut the tape. You will need to unbolt a few things and rebolt as well. You will need a jumper cable, ect.. Instead of rehashing the process do some searching it's been discussed at nauseam.

Gas and oil burner process aren't really any different in design, just a few different parts in the way like the ecu that need to be temporally removed to get to wires.

I would suggest filling the aux battery box with wood blocks to keep rodents from nesting.

Take it out and remove the harness for your aux battery too.

I'm aware of two different ways but wasn't sure if one method was better than the other and was hoping for input from folks that have done it.

I followed what Wlflandoverland or something like that on Youtube did.. but that means messing up your OEM harness by prying on it and what not... If I had another JTRD and was deleting the aux battery again... I'd just tape off the aux leads as you can hide it and it is easily reversible. I hate things you can't undo.

Just tapeing off the aux leads in the aux battery compartment? Does this require pulling a fuse?

When I bought mine it was already deleted and I didn't know it but they just attached the battery cables to main battery. It ran perfectly fine with no issues. I went back when I went to remove it and found the battery already removed and then removed fuse 47 I think and also removed the battery cables. However, remote start no longer works now. I plan on going back and re-attaching everything back the way they had it previously as everything was working fine and remote start worked.

Thanks for the info. I'd like to keep remote start if possible so it sounds like i shouldn't remove the aux battery cables entirely.

From what I understand, the diesel doesn’t require you to pull a fuse. Just tape off the negative battery terminal after disconnecting it from your main battery.

Here’s the exact video I followed. I believe this guy is on the forum too, also a master tech for Honda I think.

If your Aux is going bad, there is a reason. I would suggest finding the problem first before deleting. How do you know the Aux is going bad? The only way to tell would be to isolate it and test it.

Yeah, a low voltage thing or some error or light and right away "the aux is going bad".
Might not be. Could be the main. could be some other issue.
Best to find the problem first, then go from there.

If in the end that's the choice, then do it - but make sure there's not something else going on.
Charge each battery independently and test each independently.

My first question to the OP - how do you KNOW it's the aux battery going out?
(if it is, it is but it might not be)

If I chose to take out the aux - I'd disconnect the aux, remove it, tape off and leave cables in place and pull F42.
That way if i decided to sell or trade it later - it's easy to put back to stock.

I had the aux switch temporarily disabled issue so I pulled the aux battery and put in a new main battery while I was at it. I did the same thing, removed the aux, taped off the cables and left them in place, pulled the F42 fuse. Haven't had any issues since and remote start still works fine.

The aux switches don't run off the aux battery.
that warning simply means the battery voltage is low. And that COULD be the main battery.
In fact, my wife had that exact same error on her JLU more than once after it sat for a couple of days.
The kicker? Her Jeep has no aux battery as it's a 4xe. The MAIN battery was low so the aux switches were disabled.
I charged it and things have been fine.

Both batteries run all accessories at all times. They are connected in parallel.

Nothing has anything to do with remote start, either - not sure where that comes from, but totally unrelated to anything.

You may have had an aux battery going, but don't connect the aux switch message to the aux battery - it's only a name -
Auxiliary switches run from both batteries.
The auxiliary battery is just that, it's not what operates the switches.

In your case, it was likely the auxiliary battery was going.
