Anyone else do this?

Small stuff like adjusting the driver’s door striker at delivery.
Saved fuel, time & aggravation.

Yesterday the tailgate lock quit working.
Removed access panels & fished out the plastic lock pivot & reinstalled it fully seating it on the lock tangs.

So far I have not even used any of my free Jeep Wave oil changes.

Who knows how long they would keep it to do gravy jobs that only take a few minutes.
My dealer shop keeps it only long enough to get the job done. If it needs parts, they ASK me if they can keep it. I have so many vehicles I usually say yes. Oil change and tire rotation? Sit and have coffee and free donuts or cookies, out in an hour. Relax and breathe and watch their TV and enjoy their food and drink.
I have so many other things to do - warranty stuff is their baby, not mine. And if I did it all, they'd also have NO record and it would be no financial load on them. How would they know that 30% of all JTs leave with xxx problem if you fix it yourself? Ever look over all the "dealer communications" online? Some of those are discovered only because of people taking it in and complaining. The trim coming loose inside? Sure, I COULD fix it, but make them do it, make them record the problem, make FCA track hey, all of the trim is falling off, we have a problem!

I can make money doing other stuff, why do their work for free for them?
There may be some minor things, adjustments or snap something back in place if I have no other reason to be in their area, but often, I save things up and give them a list.
And frankly, I've not had all that many issues come up. The fitment of everything on mine is fine, the rear trim by the back glass has come loose - and I put it back once, but I'd rather spend my time doing the mods and changes I WANT to make, and let them have record of the stuff that breaks or is a problem.

They take good care of us and I have worked up a decent relationship with a couple of the service writers there.

I use the jeep wave program, you bet. Everything is on warranty, and they claim to do a "150 point inspection" which I'm fine with. I have one more "Free" oil change, and as long as its on warranty, they can do it. My last oil change should take me right up to the end of my 3 year warranty. After that, I'll be doing my own preventive maintenance on it. I already add the accessories and if its beyond my capabilities for knowledge and tools, I have friends at shops, who I trust to do the work, and warranty what ever is done. But honestly, 8 Jeep Badge of Honor trails into my ownership, I have had "0" issues. and I have 9 more Badge of Honor Trails scheduled for this summer, including the Rubicon. So, we'll see how everything goes. Besides the 9 trails, I'll be doing the 5 again in Ouray this summer, but I already have the badges for those. Yes, I'll be working my jeep hard on 14 trails this summer, as well as pulling my 4k lbs trailer From Meridian Id to Glacier Park Montana, and RTT-ing it on other weekend trips. With any luck, it should never make a run to any Malls or Town stores. I do throw the top back and pull it out of the garage for nice evening drives once in a while.

Warranty items only for dealership.

Anything else either I do it or I choose the shop doing the work.

My old shop foreman had been the service manager & I took all our MoPars there but now he is no longer with them.

I will check San Antonio’s Jeep dealers out to find a good one to use.

I bought 200 miles away so that is a no go.

I change my own oil and basic maintenance. Everyone knows the shop lackey does basic oil changes. I'm not risking a filter being improperly screwed or not even replaced. Oil all over the engine. Loose bolts because they didn't put stuff back on right....I've had all of the above.

Otherwise I let them do anything that needs repair. Didn't spend three grand on the extended warranty for nothing.

I trust my dealership, who is a mile from home, for the work. They have taken my truck in same-day if I have had something come up that's urgent. Otherwise, I schedule the other items to be fixed when it's time for the oil changes. They've also replaced two screws I lost while working on the Jeep.

I do everything myself. Dealerships are for buyin not buildin. I am so used to building everything myself from when I had the scout and had to build everything (mainly because I’m cheap) but it’s hard for me to buy a bracket when I have a welder.

Been going to the same dealer for over 30 years now. Have bought several vehicles from them and take to them too have service done. Anything timely, they always give me or my wife a loaner. I give them 5-Stars. 👍
Also used 1 of my 4 Jeep Wave oil changes. Plan on using the rest. They also give me a free rotation, and my Gladiator does not have the wheels and tires it came with. 👍👍
I've read where some folks have had bad luck with their dealer. Bummer. I am happy with mine.

Nice fab porn.
I have my Dad’s copper wound Millermatic he bought new in 1974.

Only thing I have done so far with the Jeep is front hitch and rack .

Just finished it and took a pic in the dark.
Small but will hold 1000#

I took my JT back to the dealer today (my wife wanted me to pick up a longer charging cord for her phone anyway so I needed to hit a store or two) - I showed them the PS reservoir was empty (had the gear changed a week and a half ago)
I said I didn't feel like paying 25 bucks for a quart of fluid and since they replaced the gear under warranty - here it is! LOL
So the service writer walks to the parts department, grabs a bottle of the MOPAR electrohydraulic PS fluid, fills it to the full hot mark and hands me the bottle and says "There ya go". That was that. No paperwork, nothing.
Hell, I'd have filled it, I just didn't feel like kicking out 25 bucks for a bottle of the stuff since the steering gear was replaced under warranty anyway.
They also replaced the interior trim pieces next to the rear glass (you all know - those pieces that are held with two small pieces of velcro stuck to the hard top, and they keep falling off). The service writer brought it back around after the tech did those pieces and said "wow, they steering is really solid and firm now, you move the steering wheel any at all and you can feel the tires moving". Yup, finally - I think they've nailed it. It's rock solid, no wander, no slack or slop, zero play, not a bit.

BTW - the power steering systems on these appears to operate a lot like the cooling system with the removed reservoir - they draw fluid in only after shut down, cooling off, the fluid contracts and pulls in fluid, start it, any air bubbles expand and get shoved out, let it cool and it draws fluid in. Since mine has been replaced twice I've observed that thing and it may be full to the mark when you get it, even when you get it home, but check if 2 or 3 times over that many days as it may need fluid later. In my case it took several days to appear low. NO LEAKS. Chassis is clean, not a drop on the garage floor.

I need to adjust mine, too. Just need to get the right bit or driver for it.

With both my mustangs I did the basics myself: oil change, brakes, filters, fluids and such. Anything major and I took it to the dealer if it was under warranty and a third party shop if out of warranty. I'm not changing things when my Gladiator gets here.

Would the 3.6 even fit on my engine stand?

Can they be dropped out the bottom or does a person have to resort to the hard way? Out the top?

Probably take it to the dealer for major engine work. Too busy with my own other projects.

It depends on the work and the cost. I do all the oil changes, brakes, tire rotations, and modifications. For the lift and Steer Smarts install, I took it to my brother and we did it.

Warranty goes to dealer. Had the drive shaft TSB/recall early on and I need to setup an appt for the steering. Otherwise, it's been without issue so no need for a dealer visit.

Replaced my rear vent glass/weatherstripping this AM.

The labor quote was $260.-$350. plus shop supplies etc.

Little over 30 minutes total to remove & install.

Had silicone spray or it woul have taken longer.

Use to do this for a living so had all the tools.

Again, hats off to Jeep Wave for getting the glass & seal

that was on national back order until October!!!

THANKS JEEP WAVE !!!!
