I’ll probably only take the top off to say I did it. I got the hard top and when we want the open air, we take the panels off and/or doors. Soft top just didn’t make sense for us.

I had both tops with my JL and can say unequivocally that the soft top is louder. Over the top wind noise is about the same, but sound transmission from the back and sides was night and day.

I have a Trektop on my JK....and while it is nice to have options for just front flipped back or go bikini......one thing that is annoying is when just running with the front flipped back...the flapping and amount of wind that ends up with nowhere to go besides passenger ears is bad. Sometimes I would remove the rear plastic window and that would create enough passthru that the wind effect was almost entirely removed. I am hoping with the freedom top...either with panels removed or with the sunrider open...that the little sliding beer window in the back will accomplish the same thing.

I have the same top on my JKUR....only issue has been, when open, the top will bounce a little and make a thud feeling within the cab. I fixed that with straps. There's no flapping at all. I run rear windows on and off a lot.

I've got the same problem on my 2-dr JKR. Fine at lower speeds, but hit the highway and the buffeting feels like it could blow out an eardrum!

I'd think on a JT or 4-door JK/JL it would be solved by rolling the back windows down a bit or opening the rear window on the JT.

I live in FL so no 'snow' issues.

Although I like the look of the hardtop the practicality of spontaneous 'top-down' is less.

They have made some great improvements to the noise level. Decibel tests were very similar.

No regrets here.

Six of one half dozen of the other. The JT is Jeep number 8. Seven prior had soft tops. Just happened the JT I bought had a hard top. I do not see any difference in noise. If anything I think the ht is louder.

I did not elimiate the hard top in my search since I figured it was lighter and smaller than the JKU hardtops and was small enough that I could get it through my door in the basement.

The only thing that would make me lean in favor of the HT is what I call the flying nun look that the rear of the soft top has. You young fellows may not know what that is.

I’m never really sure how to answer negatively phrased questions, but I’ll try. I don’t not regret that I didn’t order the soft top with my JT. I figured there might be some cool aftermarket soft top options that I wouldn’t want to not get, at a lesser price than the factory soft top. I’m hoping Bestop doesn’t not offer the Trektop NX for the JT.
Not the worst best answer but close.

My wife and I got the hard top on both her JKU and my JT. It is a lot cheaper to get an aftermarket soft top than it is to get an aftermarket hard top. Winters are great!

Does anyone not regret ordering a hard top...
This might be the most awkwardly-phrased question in the history of the internet... and that's saying something! As worded, the phrase assumes everyone who has ordered a hard top regrets the decision (and is asking if anyone feels otherwise). If that's the case, then no, I don't regret purchasing a hard top one bit. My wife has a soft top, and it's a PITA with no real up-side other than being cheaper.

Thank you professor for the English lesson. Cut me some slack since English is my third language ;)

Either way I think it’s a mixed bag, seems like the opinions are all over the place depending on everyone’s circumstances. I think I will definitely order both next time around.

And who knows... the cheapest option might be to trade it in at two years. I was in the dealer yesterday and some of the sales guys were talking saying they expected the resale value to be crazy high the first 1-3 years simply because there is none on the market. They were expecting it to be 70-75% after 5 years? And close to 90% at 2 years. Seems high to me but we will see!

Lol sorry what? This must be user error. The soft top is literally 2 latches to unhook and you push the top back - that's it. No bolts, no need to store anything, etc.

I had a 79 CJ and always wanted a hardtop. Soft top to drafty, same with the Samurai I still have. And a lot of work to take of and put back on, at least more than my Old BMW. I bought the Dual top group on my Gladiator. Picked it up11/26, In St Louis area, so have not had a chance to put the soft top on yet. Can't wait for spring. So far my only regret is being forced to order tonneau to get dual top on Sport S. I got the hard cover...Do Not buy that thing.

I agree two clips and a little bit of effort to pull it back and its open. 5 minutes and I can remove the back windows and the top if I want as well with the 4 thumb screws I put in. way quicker and easier than the freedom pannels on my Dad's JK.
