Hello,

2021 JT Sport S
25K Miles

Reading about the notorious rocker arm/cam failures has me a little on edge as warranty period is closing out lol.

Does this "tick" sound like normal injector noise or more like the dreaded 3.6 tick of death?

I can't hear anything inside cab or really anything with hood closed. I know engines can make "normal" ticks & sounds but unsure if this is a red flag.

Thank you.

That video sounds like every fuel-injected Jeep vehicle I have owned for the last decade. Even has the full speed 747 jet engine fans going.

I say you're fine, lol.

The way I could tell my engine had a bad cam, is that I could hear it inside the cab. I get worried every time I hear the normal engine tick from the injectors, but once I close the door its hard to hear unless you are really listening for it. With the bad cam you didn't have to try, it was there.

That’s typewriter sound your hearing are the injectors. My 2023 JTR sounds exactly the same but maybe a bit louder due to not having that plastic cover on the engine like you do. That cover deflects and deadens the injector noise down.

You'll know it when it happens. The sound you're hearing is common, and depending on where/how you're driving, you may or may not notice it.

I have a Sunrider top that's usually open, and doesn't offer much sound deadening when closed, so I've always heard the ticking sound.

Last summer, driving through AZ towards CA is when the notorious valvetrain issue happened. Somewhere between Williams, AZ and Kingman, AZ the noise got noticeably louder. And under hard acceleration/5000RPM+, it started to miss.

To me, it sounded the same, just louder.

I had the JSCAN plugin, so I pulled over at a gas station and plugged it in so I could see what was going on.

When the 5.7 in my oldest WK2 ate its driver side cam, I noticed the change in sound right away. I was sitting in a drive-through and had the benefit of the brick wall to bounce sound off of. It was about as distinct of a change as you could hope for. No way it could have been mistaken for the exhaust leak or the injector noise that Jeep has always had. I pulled the heads a few months later to confirm my suspicions. Oddly enough it never threw any codes or had symptoms other than the sound.

Right.

Just to be clear, I meant the typical Jeep tick you may or may not hear it, depending on your rig setup.

When the valvetrain starts to blow up, I agree, you can't mistake the issue.

Good to hear that!! Doing Pennzoil OW-20 every 3-4k miles. Plan to transmission fluid at 50ish because I do a lot of short trips.
I was going to give you a like, at the bottom of your post. But it won't take. So here..:like:
