First problem - Oil leak

12-15-21: Got a call today. They said they put dye in it, but still don't see the dye. Going to drive it some more and see if the dye shows up. I don't think it should take long because as you can see in my photo above, it's leaking bad enough to drip off the pan bolt heads. Actually, it looked worse than that by the time I dropped the truck off.

Anyway, they also said this will "likely end up being weeks to complete" due to the fact that they have two diesel technicians, and those guys are both knees deep in diesel repairs right now. Additionally, "Chrysler only allows 5 days of rental coverage" and I need to call them personally to plead with them for more time. @JeepCares is there any way you can assist with this?

If I cannot get a free loaner while the truck is being repaired, I'm strongly considering moving on to another brand. 4 of our last 5 new FCA products have spent significant time in the shop now, and it's getting a little ridiculous.

I was able to get a case manager on it via telephone today. Thanks though. I'll let you know if anything changes.

I feel your pain. I also have an EcoDiesel with a similar oil leak.
This is our first Jeep and I like the vehicle. I can even pardon a problem as long as it gets fixed, but the dealer service has been pathetic. I've got the dye in ours now and they had to spray some type of white deodorant looking spray on the block/oil pan to try to determine where the leak is coming from. This leak started at 1,100 miles. Nothing gets done unless I get pushy and start calling/e-mailing everyone. Maybe I've just been spoiled by the brand I was so loyal to for years. They just didn't have a convertible truck with a diesel.

I've said this before ; dealer service has likely done more damage to a brand/model than the OE vendor, in my experience both on and off the bay floor.

Agreed. Reason why I'm not using any of the free oil changes and even adjusted the steering box myself. I've had bad experiences with the dealers bs.

Agree. They are sloppy as hell, I thought I had an oil leak when I got home. Spotting on the ground in the garage sent me searching, but the fact it was dirty and dark made me think they were super sloppy replacing the filter, dripping it everywhere.

For the filter. Just unscrew it all the way and wait a few minutes to let the oil drained than remove. No drips that way.

At approx 1000 mile, i saw a little oil residue underneat the oil cooler as well, at the mating surface. I torque the bolt 1/10th of a turn and it's stop leaking.

They replaced my oil cooler seal once already and it started leaking agian. They also "resealed" my timing chain cover.

Woooo! I get to go back to the dealer tomorrow for yet another one. This new EcoDiesel has a leak too!

Going to be interesting to see how long the wait is for parts THIS time now that we're in a screwed supply chain world.

For whatever it's worth...

The dealership ended up trading me out of that Gladiator and into a Toyota truck they had on the lot. I didn't keep the Toyota long and went back to Ram and Jeep trucks not long afterward.

But, they did eventually fix that oil leak and sold the Gladiator to another family. That family had lots of problems with it too, and about 5,000 miles later it had a small underhood fire on the side of the interstate. They took it to a dealership somewhere in south-central KY and it sat there 3 to 4 months with no resolution with around 19,000 miles on the clock. That family got sick of it and traded into something else.

Since this Gladiator was (and still is) set up in my Jeep app, I've been able to keep tabs on it over the years by looking at service records. Apparently a third owner bought it and put a lot of money into it. As of today it has almost 90,000 miles on the odometer and currently has two open recalls that haven't been addressed. But it's still going!

That proves that if your pockets are deep enough and you've got patience, you can keep an EcoDiesel on the road.

Just thought it would be neat to post an (almost) 5-year update.

I do know the second owners. I gave them some of the parts I had kept from that Jeep. The details about the fire and all that were from conversations. The rest are clearly shown on the app.
