They cannot sell them. Most of the so called "200K" pre-orders are being cancelled by customers or not picked up.

Ford jacked the prices up way high 5 times so far and then is now offering like $15K discounts or more on some models especially the Lariat. On paper, with discounts and tax credits, you can get a Lariat Lightning cheaper than a gas F150 Lariat but nobody is biting. Never mind the fact Ford is loosing money on ever one they have built so far.

At the end of the day, people want trucks that do truck things when fully loaded out and have still have range.

They were so ridiculous trying to make one of their big pushes into EVs with a truck given the technology and infrastructure that currently exists. If you use it for anything besides driving down the road you get a fraction of the range. Towing? Off-road? Sorry, you're gonna get half your range max.

EVs need to start off small and efficient and get bigger and more useful as the technology improves.

I laugh at the Hummer Offroad Overland vehicle that's been displayed at the Overland Expos, every time I see it.

I'm not surprised, all the big auto companies are trying to quickly come up with an EV to compete with Tesla (and now Rivien), and to be honest it looks like they are tryin to make EV's from a pure market share perspective, not authentic caring about making a great electric vehicle. Add to that the "look at us we are making an EV and need to hire EV people" to support the perspective that they care and the consumer reads through the BS. They ramped up production way too fast without truely understanding things because they didn't want to risk losing any more marktet share. This leads to poor hiring, poor production, and a slew of other issues which when all compounded lead to this big layoff.

I like Tesla's mainly because of how Elon is hell bent on innovation, manufacturing simplification, and driving down cost to its most fundamental level. At the same time the Tesla engineers have done a hell of a job making incredibly high performance good looking EV's. I have not seen a Tesla add talking about how they are electrifying the future (aside from company updates or delivery events), but theres a lot of those "virtue signaling" adds from other companies.

How long before this thread turns into a debate that isn't civil?

Cool another EV hate thread.

I'd buy a Lightning if it had an NACS connector. Heard next year?

Hell of a family vehicle for all things local. That's what's awesome about EV amongst the many other things. Full size truck? Tiny Bolt? Same 'mileage' and cost for those miles - free!

When buying a 'family car' for local use things like MPG matter when buying a gas car. Means nothing with an EV.

Edit: hmm....what I was trying to quote just up and disappeared..

This right here is the critical factor that most people pushing mandates overlook. And you even said it for yourself....

If I lived in a city, I would be trying to get one if my house wiring could support it. But I don't. The majority of Americans do not live in a '15 minute city' or whatever they're being called now. Anyway, I live 60 miles from town. Thats 120 miles round trip not including running errands in town. The electrical at my house will not support EV charging, nor do I have the $$$ to pay for said electrical upgrades. It has been proven multiple times that EV's dont do well in cold temps. Today it dropped below freezing. Temps wont be above freezing again for probably the next 6 days.

I wish people, those that lived in cities, and those that live in rural areas, would stop and think for a moment about the US as a whole before saying do this, don't do that. Because life in this country is highly variable. When I lived in western Washington, I could get everything I needed within a 45 minute drive. Over there, sure, a EV would be a steel for all but weekend fun. Now.... I barely can get to town and back home on half a tank. Today, with head winds, freezing temps, and winter gas - It took me a full tank - yep, 22 gallons of gas, well maybe more like 19, to get to town, run a few errands, and back home. Life in San Diego is VASTLY different. Where I live, EV's simply do not make sense. There is one guy where I live that does have one. I only see him drive it out here in the summer, and usually it's just an overnight stop while he charges it up to continue on to wherever he is going to. Now a hybrid would be much more appealing.

The people in the cities have NO IDEA how much they rely on fossil fuels for their existence.
Their food, electricity, sanitation, infrastructure, and seriously just about everything else that keeps them alive and comfy day to day simply would not be there if it were not for fossil fuels.

Around here, solar farms are popping up all over the place, but my whole county doesn't come close to consuming the electricity that a half a block in the concrete canyons do in a day's time.
It's a sham and a scam to even begin to think that it's any kind of a serious answer.

I'd really love to see a true free market with zero subsidies for anything, across the board. Not just energy, but everything.
Free markets drove innovation in the industrial revolution, and the only way to win was to be the best.
Now the only way to win is to game the system the best, and hope they don't figure you out before you pocket enough of public's cash to set yourself up for life.
