Hey gang,

About a month old 22 Sport S owner here. LOVE this Jeep, and I really have no complaints other than the fuel gauge and miles to empty when the low fuel light comes on.

Take today - probably the third/fourth time I've filled up - I tried to really stretch it this time.

I was avg about 18.5mpg on 60/40 highway/city driving - and I racked up about 315miles on my tank with "20" miles to empty showing. The low fuel light came on at about 30 miles to empty.

I took the JT to the gas station, and pumped 18 gallons into the tank. I also paused for 30 seconds for a few rounds after the pump would click off.

Now, I know we have 22 gallon tanks - so I am a little disappointed with how safe the fuel system plays miles to empty. In theory - I had about another 70ish miles o on my current low tank per the amount of fuel that I pumped into it today.

I do get why Jeep probably did this - to make sure people aren't running empty at the last second. But 4 gallons to go? C'mon.

Anyone else experience this?

Mine goes, “Low Fuel,” at about 30 miles, then shows, “Low,” at under 10 miles.
When it hits, “Low,” I’ve put 20+ gallons in it.
That’s close enough for me!

When I fueled up today the guage was on 1/4 tank or slightly less it took a little over 13 gallon to fill up. So it's on the conservative side but the fuel in the tank is "cooling " the fuel pump as it's running. Running tank low all the time might shorten fuel pump life. I've been down to showing less than 50 miles left and didn't get but 15 gallons to fill up.

Gauges have F for full, and E for empty. But no knows about the W. It's below the E. The W is for walk.

Sorry for the bump - but today I tried to squeeze out a "full" tank and I had the low fuel light come on at about 30 miles left.

I got down to "Low Fuel" warning with an estimated 20miles to go.

I pumped 17.47 gallons into my tank.

I got about 16.7mpg average from the math - so I for sure had around 60miles to range...

I noticed that my tire size set in the system from factory was 32.81 or something, and that was much larger than my tires actually were, at 36 psi they are closer to 31.90. After adjusting for that, m low fuel is a bit more accurate, showing 30ish miles and the tank fill up reflects that as well allowing 19-20 gallons.

Just saying - even though the low fuel light comes on and you fill up and still have four gallons left in the tank, four gallons in a container that long and wide isn't much. Tilt the truck a little one way and the pump is likely to not pick up anything.

This is correct. I ran out of fuel in my own driveway once in my JK. I parked it in my driveway with it running and the next day it ran for about 2 seconds before it was out of fuel. I was parked facing downhill so all the fuel was in the front of the tank and couldn't get sucked up.

If it bothers you guys that much, you can just ignore it and go off the old-school method by miles.

Of course there's a margin for error that's being compensated for.
Of course there will always be gas in the tank the pump can't reach.
Of course you'll never get 22 gallons in at one fill-up.

Of course you don't actually want to run it that low that any of this is make-or-break!

Just put in gas when it needs gas. It won't hurt anything.
