The so called jack rabbit start is no longer an issue. The problem was carburetors with accelerator pumps and overly rich metering. EFI these days is much more economical with acceleration.
Yeah, it does make a difference. Proven in two of our Jeeps. HP is work over time so the faster you accomplish the work, the more fuel it takes. Move from a stop to normal speed fast and I can watch the fuel numbers drop on the cluster, but drive like my wife is with me, and my mpg stays higher. Makes a huge difference her being in the truck with me or not. The only difference, the one and only single difference is how I take off. The speed I get to is the same.

Started around 18mpg after initial break in.. added rock sliders.. dropped to about 17mpg.

Added the tonneau, went up to 18.2-18.8 (this is all highway driving, mind you, at 70mph'ish). Added the rubicon steel front bumper, skid, and Warn EVO12s, and I'm hovering right at 18mpg on highway. (we're not going to discuss in town.. lol)

Still on 33" stock mud tires.

My 2020 Rubicon got better mpg than my 2021 Rubicon is now. Starting to regret trading in ol' Blue. I'm averaging 15.5-16 mpg at 9K miles.

How is that possible? I have an overland and I average 17.9 combine.
Downhill on a highway maybe?
The mileage claims here are always hilarious. My best tank was bone stock on street tires heading to Vegas and got 19.5. Now with lift, 35s, and removed all the aero bits getting around 16.5 same trip. Overall around town 14-15mpg combined (changed surprisingly little). Still happy because my Commander only got around 12-13 (before the engine ate itself).

Why are they hilarious? Mine have been confirmed by me - and an app.
People keep forgetting that mpg is related to the DRIVER as much as the truck, the grade, wind, weather conditions, SPEED (biggy there!), weight on and in the truck among other things. I got better mpg using different gas (slight) but still noticeable.
Before adding over 150 pounds to the front with steel bumper, winch and skid plate, I got better mpg, adding A/T tires dropped it again.
Bone stock I was getting EASY 22+ mpg and I mean EASY.

I bet that if my wife drove your truck the mpg would jump up by about 2. (unless she wanted to get home after a long trip then expect it to drop by at least 2 lol)

Vegas - isn't that fairly high altitude, and didn't you drive some grades getting there? I noticed a difference driving from home to Colorado Springs vs. driving back home.......

21 JT Diesel Rubicon
So I have a new JT overland and the gas mileage is not impressive. I've mainly drove in the city but really short commutes. Farthest I've taken it on the highway is maybe about 15 miles. Right now it's showing me my average is 14.3 mpg. Is this standard? Everything I've read has said it should be about 17 city, 23 highway. This is my first Jeep, so maybe this is just expected lol. But curious to see what other's have experienced!

**Diesel Fuel MPG**. Hi, I just finished quite a road trip in my stock JTRD w/auto trans and adaptive cruise control. Trip was a loop between DC, southern FL, NW FL, TN and back to DC. Honestly, I am very happy with the fuel mileage of the diesel among many other great things. Hope this info helps someone who is looking to buy a Gladiator and weighing all the factors. Quick stats:

Miles Driven: 2617.2 miles

Truck Odometer at End of Trip: 4206 miles

Overall MPG (from computer, not manually calculated): 29.4mpg

Driving Style: Mostly used adaptive cruise set between 73-79 miles per hour. Mostly interstate, with traffic along most of the routes (rarely had wide open road ahead of me). Some gusty winds along the way, especially today.

Weather: About half in the 70-80s F and half in the 50-60s F. MPG seemed to improve with cooler temps.

Issues: None whatsoever with the Jeep itself!

1. Took two rocks to the windshield resulting in a 4 inch crack and a chip. I read that Jeep now offers a Gorilla glass windshield option from MOPAR...will look into that for sure now.

2. DEF: The DEF warning message notified me that I would not be able to start the truck if I continued for 400+ more miles of driving unless I filled the DEF tank. In other words, the DEF indicator level turned RED when low and the Messages screen popped up upon starting saying that I should fill up the DEF soon or I only had so many more miles to go before the truck would not start (computer will not allow it to start if DEF is empty). Luckily, I found a Jeep dealer and bought a 2.5 gallon jug with spout for $32. NOTE: The 2.5 gallon jug will soon be sold under a different part number and will NOT include a spout.

Saw some other great looking Gladiators on the trip too!

Does the def tank empty quickly? Wouldn't think it is a good idea to let it get that low.

Go to Fuelly.com and browse for the specific Jeep you have by engine option. Then you'll see what normal really is for these. Most people online give unrealistic numbers.

If you want to test how accurate the Jeep and apps really are, you could always just do the math the old school way. I used to reset the trip miles every fill up on every Jeep until this one to be able to calculate my actual miles per gallon. I do notice a little variable with the dash display when I do the math instead.
