Gas Mileage?

Read my Sig to see what I have. It's all about speed and wind. Today I drove back from Pismo Beach to the L A area and got a clean 18 MPG . No wind, doing <70 mph. If I do 75+ it will be closer to 15. The wind noise at <70 isn't too bad but at close to 80 it's a pain. It's a lifted underpowered brick.

Here on the Olympic Peninsula, 20 miles west of the last city of any size, we average 17-18mpg. Pretty much anywhere we go requires a combination of a dozen or more miles on two lane highway at 55-60 and/or side roads with lower speeds but a lot of elevation change. On forest roads we’re getting 10mpg uphill and then “99 mpg” down while coasting in manual 2nd.

Further afield when we are on an interstate at 70 the economy drops to 15ish.

I got 21-22 hwy in my stock sport s max tow, now 19-20 with oversized tires (285/75/17). Flat. Texas. Sweet spot is 69mph

Datapoint: I went fishing yesterday afternoon…70 miles there, a couple of miles on ranch roads to get to the lake, and 70 miles back. Mostly flat with gently rolling hills, 3 adults in the jeep and 100lbs of coolers, trolling motors batteries rods reels etc in the bed. Full tank of gas and newly reset gas mileage tracker, 4.10 gears, 285/75/17 tires, tailwind going there and headwind coming home. I have not reprogrammed the computer for the bigger tires yet so this is an underestimate. 65-70 mph depending on traffic.

Just crossed 1000 miles on my oil burner but loving the milege ...hit 25mpg on a longer road trip last weekend and 23mpg in-town. Bone stock Rubicon.

All depends on heavy your foot is, OR the additions to your JT,

We live in Florida, the special people that live here and the new influx that's here now, half think the speed limits 95 mph, the other half can't get over 60 in the passing lane, so depending on where your going can also effect mileage, I been on the limiter on I95 trying to get out of the way,

Nice easy 70mph I've seen 23 probably had a tail wind, 37"s no regear and loaded with wife kids luggage, 15mpg,

2" lift, 37s on my mojave and it will average about 16-17 mpg of I keep it at 70 or below. Bump it up to 80 and you'll see 14 for sure.

Yeah I keep my foot in mine too much. 13.6 on a good day. 10.6 on a fun one.

Mine is between 15 and 18.5. Have not seen 19mpg in 10K of driving.

2023 Rubicon, stock everything except 4.56 not 4.10. A lot of this is 75-80 on the highway and stop-and-go in suburbia. Towing my equipment trailer that has a large fold-up loading ramp in the back kills my highway mpg (even at 55mph), like dragging a parachute.

Brand new here...just picked up my new-to-me 2022 Gladiator High Altitude today...

Question on gas mileage: What do people expect to get? Going 75mph on the highway, without significant wind, flat ground near sea level, with A/C on, I showed average 14 MPG over 300 miles. I was expecting closer to 20. The sticker says to expect 22 highway.... Is that what others see? 15K miles on the truck

I got 14.2 to and from my house to Corova, OBX NC; light traffic doing 75-80mph. And some of that travel was in 4 Hi on the beach. On 37x13.5r17, rack and bed filled with stuff for the week with all 4 of us. Trip was 330 miles each was or 660 miles round trip.

When around town in OBX I was getting right at 20 mpgs doing 35-45mph. NOt horrible considering everything

'22 Rubicon Ecodiesel with stock tires and 26K miles.

Around town I sit between 22 to 24 mpg. On the freeway, the Christmas-gas engine really likes 55-60 mph. When at those speeds I've kissed 28 mpg a couple times. At more typical freeway speeds (65-80 mph) mileage backs down to 25-26, probably due to the (non)aerodynamics.

15.7 combined average on my 2020 Sport (3.6L), 15.3 on my 2023 Rubicon (3.6L). Both run 35's and stock gearing. Both either in town driving or 75 on the interstate. Very rare to see any significant runs on 55mph highways.

The Gladiator will get good mileage if you live at sea level and drive on flat roads at 65 mph max.... I get "not good" gas mileage because I live in the Mountains and always drive fast.... However, if you compare the motor, tires, aerodynamics, gears, etc... to other comparable vehicles on comparable terrain, the Gladiator does well, ie. for the resistance applied to the motor, my view based on my other vehicles, is that it does well to get the mpg it does. In other words, my impression is that the motor is very efficient.

As the others are saying... I think there is a threshold right around 70 mph - anything more (including wind) will really put a drain on the gas mileage. I get get as much as 25 mpg (2020 Overland, stock, manual) on the highway (65-70 mph), but more like 19 going up and down the hills in Pittsburgh, PA on secondary roads.

As the others are saying... I think there is a threshold right around 70 mph - anything more (including wind) will really put a drain on the gas mileage. I get get as much as 25 mpg (2020 Overland, stock, manual) on the highway (65-70 mph), but more like 19 going up and down the hills in Pittsburgh, PA on secondary roads.

It's most definitely that 70 MPH is the upper limit of decent highway fuel economy. A couple of years ago, I took a trip to upstate Michigan to visit family. All the way there, crossing PA and Ohio, until I got to Lansing, MI, I got around 26 MPG with the cruise set at 70 MPH. Once north of Lansing, MI on I-75, the speed limit increases to 75 MPH and, you'd better do at LEAST that or you'll get run the hell over. My mileage dropped to 21-22 MPG. I also have a stone stock Overland, 8sp auto, still factory tires (ordered 5/19/ built 6/19, delivered 7/19).
