Since I first got my truck I never had any issues with overflowing. The area that I live in there's about three stations that I use on a regular basis (Petro-Canada, Costco and Ultramar). A few months ago several Ultramar were recently bought out by Esso and new pumps were installed. Now every time I fill up there it overflows like crazy and this goes for all other Esso stations I have tried, might not all be the trucks fault. Anyways just my two cents.

I have the same issue. It always seems to be a couple of specific pumps at one station I normally frequent that I get the overflow. Just about everywhere else I fill up at seems fine.

mine does not even click to stop! Gas comes pouring out no warning, no auto stop. It just spits gas out when full. I definitely know how to fill up gas. Been filling vehicles and driving for 35 years

I have a 23 model. The first four fill ups it didn’t have an issue at all. The last five fill ups it’s done it three times. My truck is at 4000 miles.

Its random as far as i can tell. I generally only have an issue when its really hot outside and the truck is hot from running for a bit. She likes to squirt a fair but still shuts the pump off.

Thank you for tagging us, Choj.

Hi everyone,
For those of you experiencing this, have you had the opportunity to have your dealers take a closer look? Please feel free to PM us. We would be happy to connect you with a Case Specialist.

5 years worth of posts on this thread. Lets hope Jeep takes notice at some point.
Just want to add my concerns.
this happens to me randomly as well. maybe 4 different gas stations in my area it happens. Auto shut off clicks and BUURRRRRP out comes a cup or so of gas. I do not overfill.
Its clearly related to some kind of pressure building up in the tank/ lines etc that is not being vented properly.

I was at the dealer today for an oil change and they looked into this and a couple other concerns.
the answer i got was "I don't know how we can replicate this. We would have to replicate it before replacing any parts under warranty"

So im simply going to video record every fillup until it happens again. Won't take long I'm betting.

what causes this? Is it a bad vent hose, evap canister or the fill neck? I have notices the fill neck moves a bit (slight flex to it) when the pump nozzle is hanging that seemed normal to me though.

The problem I had with my 22 was that it only did that once in a while, and at certain stations. Most of the time (over half) it was fine - and of course it was fine at the pumps close to the dealership. (like taking a kid to the dentist - that tooth no longer hurts, Daddy!)
When it did it, it did it up good, but most of the time, it didn't.
That's a ton of help, I'm sure! Armed with that they should be able to nail down exactly what the problem is .......... yeah, right.......

The 2020 never did it. The 2025 has only been filled a handful of times and I tend to hold the pump's nozzle so I can run it slowly. Why in the heck newer pump nozzles have ONE setting - locked on full blast, I'll never know. You used to be able to set them on one of three settings - really slow, really fast, or sort of a medium. The new ones have one latch spot - FAST and furious.

I'm guilty of posting rants and not following up with solutions or in this case positive results. I did take mine in with this issue some time back. Mine appeared to escalate to a point where the digital fuel gauge would not show full when filled completely up. I did have to go to a second dealer in my area to have it truly addressed. Mine ended up being a clog in the vent line. SEVERAL things were replaced and inspected before the issue was found. They didn't say what was blocking it or how they think it got clogged. Mine did get fixed under warranty as it was right around 34,000 miles when it was occurring but the first dealer was almost a "sorry, can't help you and I really don't care" attitude. They are also the dealer that I have had the most issues with but that's another post, for reference I bought my Gladiator from a Mitsubishi dealer so I didn't have a buying relationship from a Jeep dealership.

I suspect more than one person will appreciate seeing that post.

Gladiator fuel overflowing.

How’s it going guys and girls. Just got a gladiator Rubicon. Is anyone else out there having a pretty good amount of fuel overflowing when the tank fills up while pumping gas.?. I know the Jeep Has warranty but like many of us I like to avoid the dealer whenever possible. I know some jeeps in the past have had this issue but has anyone had it with a new models?
My Glad was changed the fuel filling tube wile in warraty and stop the issue for 24-30 months, so it started the same spilling / overflowing. So out of warranty I changed again the fuel filling tube like 16 months ago, and lately it started to do the same in 50% the time I fill it up.

My 23 JT Gladiator Overland High Altitude auto stock -- gas spit back at very first fill up--I had to video to get dealership to work on it -- they "fixed" it which lasted about two months -- it is spitting gas again at about 70% of the time -- type of gas and gas stations do not matter --This is using the auto stop lever on the gas nozzle handle and not doing anything else -- I have to wait until a little under half a tank and then only put in 10 gallons to not have it spit gas all over (fender, running boards, shoes, clothes) It really spits a lot out all over most times.
Has anyone actually had this problem truly fixed ??? If yes, please share.

While it was "fixed" my gas mileage dropped to 17 and they said that was not enough to do anything about -- well, it is for me-- I usually get 20 and now that it is spitting gas again mileage is back up to 20

As some posts have stated--it seems pressure related -- I've had the gas cap pop off like a champagne cork-- and when traveling from low southern elevations up to high Rockies elevations, it did not spit gas at the higher elevations at all, but as soon as I was back to southern CO and KS, etc, it started back again-- 3k miles in one week camping trip.

I should not have to do this or clean up gas or risk catching on fire to video to get a known problem fixed ! This is crazy no matter what you spend on your Jeep -- this should never be an issue ! This is a dangerous consumer issue. To have it a preset option on a survey from Jeep means they know and they have not fixed it and to have the dealership act like I'm doing something wrong. It is becoming very difficult to love my JT --I've had multiple other issues also that some were fixed by dealership--when I managed to video/photo those. My old TJ has less problems than my new JT --that should not be the case especially since the TJ has 160k more miles on it and on the road for 25 years not 1 1/2 years. We all have enough to deal with in our daily lives that we need NEW vehicles to work properly !

my 23 JT started at first fill up, and has spit gas once at the beginning of putting in gas, all other times it's with the click off of the nozzle

My 23 JT started at the first fill up, after a few recordings/video the dealership 'fixed ' it but that only lasted 2 months, it is spitting gas about 70% if using the auto off on nozzle.
I currently wait until the first line under half a tank and then put in ten gallons, no spit back when I do that, but shouldn't have to !

Fuel in the fill tube, aerated fuel - meaning bubbling gas, or gas splashing against that hole near the end of the nozzle (the small hole on the side near the end) will cause a shutoff.
If the fuel is flowing fast, the flow will actually force gas down the long fill tube which goes down, across, and then over to the gas tank. There's some air in the tank at the top, sort of like a home on a well system, you have a pressure tank, air at the top gets compressed forcing water out the pipe when you open a valve.
The force of the incoming gas will slightly pressurize the air in the top of the gas tank. The force of FAST FLOWING GAS will keep the gas down in the fill tube against that pressure. When the nozzle shuts off suddenly after a fast flow, the gas in the fill tube "rebounds" and splashes out.
I fill fast to the point, then put the nozzle on slow, or manually hold the valve to fill the rest of the tank more slowly, preventing that pressure build-up and keeping the nozzle outflow from forcing gas down the tube toward the tank.

It's a commercial link - selling product, but it's a darned good explanation of the nozzle operation.
