I agree, its rare these days to see actual number comparisons and details. It was also written pretty well balanced.surprisingly well researched article
Yeah, for a change. They need to keep that guy.surprisingly well researched article
It’s because he was with Motortrend for two decades as a chief content officer and has been in the journalism industry for four decades.surprisingly well researched article
You may not be off but they haven't priced it for this market yet. Current Jeep inventories may likely provide downward pressure on that endeavor.I think the Grenadier looks better than the Jeeps, I just wish they weren't $80k for a base with lockers.
The Grenadier SUV is $80k for the base with lockers. The truck will get hit with the chicken tax, so likely $100k or more. The SUV came in at 14mpg, so they are having issues with fuel economy standards as well. That's why they can only import 4999 SUVs per year. You may not be off but they haven't priced it for this market yet. Current Jeep inventories may likely provide downward pressure on that endeavor.
That BMW B58 power plant is one of the best engines in the world. Even Toyota opted to use it instead of their own straight 6. It's likely more reliable than an LS, and it's been in so many vehicles now, parts availability is great. While interesting to read, we know this is likely little more than vaporware for the foreseeable future (not just the US market). I found the inclusion of "chicken tax" a wonderful nugget of history. For those not familiar, it is worth reading about. I agree it is very well presented! Thanks for sharing.
As a result, It won't be price competitive, it will be available in very limited quantities, and while much of the hardware looks solid -- I cannot get behind the engine choice. The BMW power plant makes sense for the EU market, of course. As TFL mentioned, an LS platform would be good in the US (but highly unlikely). While I'm not a Chevy guy at all, you cannot beat the physical packaging for power (and reliability) of an LS. The firing order of a Ford V8 sounds way better to me!
It is ironic that the guy behind this company was fed up with Rover and wanted to get into the game himself. Ironic because despite best intentions, you have what looks like another super expensive import with what will invariably be the same reliability and support issues. It is clearly inspired by the design of many vehicles, and I don't mind the looks at all.
Still, competition is good for the consumer! I just doubt this will ever be more than a journalistic fantasy and clickbait source for most of us.
