I never served in the military, but my brother did a tour in Iraq. He taught me the phrase "reduce in place" (blow it up and burn it down so it can't be used but it's not worth dragging out).

This would be my preferred method to deal with any SxS on the trail.

Dragged a pretty nice looking 7.3 F250 back up an icy hill this morning while on my way to look for some whitetail to fill the freezer.

Had to pull out my brothers F150 out of a farm field a couple weeks back. Got hung up in snow drift while breaking a path to a deer blind.

This rental Mustang was buried so deep
the F150 4x4 could not pull him free
so we double teamed the recovery.

All that training at Fort Knox
recovering tanks
finally paid off.

They had been trying for 3 hours until I showed up. Both Wrangler winches were burned out because they were pulling him into the hill not up and over. My buddy only took this shot, but i winched him forward to get him off the a tree. Then i put a 20ft strap on from front bumper to front bumper and backed down the trail keeping an angle that kept the strap just above the ground but still pulling up. There was no way to pull that truck sideway and up the crest like they were trying. So i gave onsite example of utilizing the path of least resistance. A lot of people think a winch is a do it all anywhere tool that can move anything. It is not and you can easily break it.
