Gorilla Glass. Yes or No?

So, do they make one for my Rubicon that will work with the ACC? Or is the dealer just trying to sell me what they have?

YES, they do.

Here's the message from a guy who works from Corning...........

and it was available like he said. He talked to the guy who was in charge of the Corning Gorilla Glass project for Jeep vehicles. I asked specifically about the Gorilla Glass for the Jeep Gladiator with adaptive cruise and forward collision avoidance. The guy reported back to him.
It's available. MAY be on back order by now, but it's released, it exists, it's a real product and has been installed on these Gladiators with ACC.

My thinking is that because of the properties of the inner (not middle, but inside the cabin layer) of GG, the outer is less likely to crack because the inner layer will be undamaged, intact.
If the inner layer (not middle) isn't brittle and it holds together, with the outer layer (facing the bugs) bonded to the inner layer (what the defroster blows on) it may chip - but IMO, be less likely to crack. And with glass that's thinner and lighter, I wonder if a defroster would work better? Less MASS to heat???

I also tried to get the gorilla glass even if it was a few more $$ out of pocket on my claim, but they said not available with my ACC/FCW...... Maybe thats true of the aftermarket, but you can order on the Jeep site Gorilla with ACC/FCW, so it must be available to someone?

The insurance co also said the system needed re-calibration after the new glass which they claim to pay for? They suggested I call the dealer to facilitate that.

I can tell you that I will be making changes my policy/procedure on installing lift,leveling, and/or larger tires in the shop on any vehicle with ACC or FCW to minimize the chance to suit in the event of an crash in that vehicle after modification.

Ha! I will one up you. My '03 TJ had 134000 miles on the OG windshield. That thing was pitted all to hell but no big chips or breaks. And if you know, those things were pretty much straight up and down. Not as slanted as my JL. I did order the GG for my new Gladiator, just because I could.

This spring I sold my WJ - it had belonged to my Dad before he was killed. It had 128,000 miles on it when I sold it. When I first got it there was a teeny chip hidden by a wiper - had that fixed by safelite.
The rest of the windshield? You could not drive it facing the sun on a sunny day. It just was too sparkly to see through due to the sand blasting effect. It was one of the most nasty examples of sand blasted windshields I had ever seen.

Anyone who knows my SX4 knows I baby that thing - take no risks with it. I park it in the winter and rarely drive it if there's even a chance of rain - and yet that windshield is already showing signs of a certain amount of sand blasting. The front edge of the hood was repaired because a rock hit it and not only chipped the paint but DENTED the steel where the hood is strongest. I've had to touch up the paint on the grill a couple of times already.

I think I'll do the same - I'll suggest he'll get an extra point next time I get an email asking how my visit went - they usually rank 9s and 10s anyway. I'll give 'em a call. I've helped them out furnishing document numbers and other info so maybe they'll do me a favor.

Well, a part number for replacement on a 2020 Gladiator for ACC would be my deepest wish. i can live with the crack it is not that bad. Just want it fixed.

I did get a wind deflector for the JT though, which has surprisingly helped a ton with small rocks and bugs. Wouldn’t stop a large projectile but still a great help.

Who’s deflector did you get?
I have the Mopar one, and it’s pretty much useless.

ShadowsPapa, I don't doubt that's what your contact told you, or that maybe they had indeed installed GG on a Gladiator with ACC - but I received different information from HPG's own Customer Service guy back in late August of this year while shopping for windshield replacement options. He was quite helpful / up-front and said that the ACC-compatible windshields probably wouldn't be available until after the first of the year (2022). I'm supposedly on their waiting list to be alerted when that particular glass becomes available... in case WHEN my windshield gets nailed -- again.

I've contacted them again to see if I can get further info. Since he's directly inside, not in support - maybe it's communication, maybe they had some issues, maybe it's something else that's delayed it. (or maybe the word just isn't out and it is available??)

He's going to check. He said the glass supply chain has been hit really hard this year so he needs to check "maybe it's been delayed". Will post what I find out.
We all know about "it's supposed to be.........." things in the past year. Back orders, still in a container on a ship, waiting for a truck, can't get staff, can't get raw materials.

I'm curious. I sprung for it for my Mojave, expected in about a month. I figured for ~$180 it was wroth a shot.

I still want a part number so I can get on some sort of official waiting list. RIght now my dealer says it is not available, as does their glass supplier.

So, keep pushing! ;-)

I've got GG after my first windshield cracked after just a few thousand miles.
