And the latter is why they were the cheapest.

here's a great article - and it actually applies to most carriers - they DO cover the vehicle about the same as your own insurance would, except they don't cover "acts of God".
So if they damage it in transport - their insurance covers it - unless it's tornado, flooding, etc.

The above is exactly how any carrier I've known or had information on does it - the vehicle - "cargo" is covered. IF they damage it - they do just what our own insurance would do.
Yeah 100%. The more risk you carry, the less you pay up front. Mostly throwing it out there as an anecdote that not all carriers have your back.

One lesson I learned the hard way, is the time to find out whats exactly covered is not after the fact.
If you could buy it back cheap from the insurance company you might find a lot of people on here would love to have something like that in their garage as the start of a project or for spares or??

I believe he stated that he used Montway which I have use before. According to their website he would have double coverage as they state on their website " Your vehicle will be insured by the carrier’s cargo and liability policies as well as Montway’s “Contingent Cargo Insurance” which protects you for up to $250,000 should the motor carrier and/or their insurance provider fail to fully cover a valid claim "

So that says they are broker, not a carrier.

Visits, but doesn't report.
Based on the above - could be that the carrier and broker's insurance are duking it out. I'd think that the broker would have some serious questions about how this heck this happened, etc.
This means there could be at least 3 insurance companies involved -
The vehicle owner's insurance
The carrier's insurance
the brokers insurance "contingent cargo insurance"..........

ouch.

This is why you file with your own insurance, pay the deductible, and wait for them to hash it out. You will get your deductible back if another insurance is on the hook at the end. It just will take a while to get there, but you get the claim paid in the mean time.

Makes sense.......... otherwise, you wait for the other two to duke it out, first.

You might be waiting a bit. Things like this can take a while to get sorted out, and in the meantime there's not much to talk about.
Especially if there are 3 insurance companies involved as ShadowsPapa mentioned:
The vehicle owner's insurance
The carrier's insurance
the brokers insurance "contingent cargo insurance"..........

It could also depend on what type of insurance he has as well. I was involved in a 3 car accident where a bus didn't stopped and hit me into another car and totaled all cars involved. My insurance had me paid out and done in under a week and then went after the other insurance. I guess it will all depend on how the OP is going to handle it.
