Yes @ShadowsPapa I think it tracts conservatively, I usually average 17-18mpg .

I don't care if it is bad for the fuel pump or system. I always.....at least once.....drive it until the engine stops to know how much I really have.

Just fill up a jerry, once the fuel light comes on, zero out the trip odometer. Drive until it dies....preferably on some back roads. Take note of the distance. Now you know what your true range is....give a or take a little.

This allows you to accurate plan a back country trip. I find it best to do this on a mixed terrain trip full loaded. That will give you your most conservative estimate. I hate coming out of the back country to just get gas.

Good to know, but I don’t feel the need to know that particular fact strong enough to actually do it.
If I’m going out for a long trip I’ll fill my Rotopax at the last gas station. When I get enough miles to fit it in I’ll dump it into my tank. No sense driving too far with a full gas can hanging off the side.

24 gladiator the gas gauge doesn't seem as well defined as in other jeeps I have had. Where its easy to see half full and quarter. I have been going by the miles to empty numbers and am curious how accurate it is. Currently it says 80.2 miles to empty but the gauge looks close to empty. My jeep has just below 500 miles so have been babying it. What do you all think?

Thanks
The last time I got the low fuel warning, I had about 5 gallons left.

I've got really bad eyes - and I guess I don't have much problem. The marks are each 1/8th marks. Half is dead-center. The quarter marks are a tad longer than the 1/8th marks.

This is just over 1/4

Just under 7/8 tank

On the other hand - this is extremely simple - only half and quarter marks - however, not as accurate, either! Not nearly as accurate.

Wish I had that gas gauge looks bigger than mine. I have been looking into upgrading the cluster. Infotainment.com has them but I have heard it will void your warranty if you change the cluster so not sure I will be doing it anytime soon.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of that teeny gauge stuck up there in a corner. I really wish they'd standardize the clusters.

Yeah, the 7.0" premium cluster is better and thought I would be swapping for one when I bought my base Sport, but it really has not been that bad. I just pay more attention to the RTE numbers than I do the analog gas gauge. My only niggle with the base cluster is that when the cruise control is turned on, the cruise icon takes place of the odometer and you cannot see the odometer until the cruise is turned back off.

Same here. The most fuel I have been able to pump in was 17 gallons. The RTE read 58. I have yet to get the low fuel light to turn on. I am not comfortable running it below the 50 RTE

Retired. Beach bum.
When I bought my 2024 Sport S, I found 50 miles from home with a $15,000 discount, I had found on line. The truck had just rolled off the trailer a couple days before and went through the dealer prep and cleaned. When I first looked at it there were 4 miles on it, with the gas gauge just a bit under 1/8’th. The computer said there was 40 miles left? So I asked the dealer after a nice 10 mile test drive I wanted the truck, but wanted to see a receipt for the fill up promised. The slip said 18.5 gals, after the light came on saying there was still 26 miles left after spirited test drive but never full throttle or over 5,000 rpm. So I have to think they are fairly accurate with a built in safety margin. Short of running out with a gas can handy to settle this, I trust what it says.

Contacted infotainment and they said the 7 inch clusters they sell should not void any warranties since they do the programing. So maybe I may look into upgrading.

Adding to an earlier post.
Today I found myself on I44 with 25 mls to the nearest fuel stop and 31 mls left in the tank according to the computer.

That gauge quickly reduced to the fuel line resting on top of the hash marks of empty.

I was really worried since GPS still had 6 mls to the gas station.

We made it, filled the tank, waited 30 seconds and topped off again. Maybe 1/4 gal more.
20.5 gal of fuel for the fill up

A few things I have noticed in this thread, most here don't travel to far from gas stations, or in climates that are trying to kill you, "hurricanes" included.... Try to evacuate without a full tank of fuel then. 🙄 "transplant from Midwest." They give you a week notice not like tornados so F###ing leave.
Many good points have been stated. Filling up from 1/3-1/2 tank of fuel isn't a bad idea.
My general rule is fill up when near 1/2 tank of I'm not just putting around near home (I'll get down to a quarter of a tank then) but do keep a few 5 gallon fuel cans full. Yeah I've had some fill ups of 17 gallons, using points for discount on fuel. In my travels I've been in situations where I've seen sign last gas station for over 250 miles then found it closed for winter. I barely made it to the next one on fumes. My Wrangler has a rack for 2 five gallon cans and my XJ the same. I've been in situations where that was needed even on East side of the Mississippi River. West of that many places you are S.O.L. now from my military experience fill that sucker up always I've definitely been in some close cases there even though each vehicle had 4 five gallon cans each. Wyoming and a few others can be long way between stations along with some areas of CA, NV and UT. TX, N.M were interesting a few times too in 06 or 07.
Older vehicles running out of gas wasn't good for the fuel pumps or in a diesel vehicle.
Something I learned as a broke ass teenager in 80's but a secondary lesson learned is full tank of fuel first. I think I've seen my Gladiator low fuel light on once or twice and less than 35 miles to empty the same. But at them times I had a few fuel cans of 100% gasoline for my 4-wheeler on the trailer too.

In reality I like it telling me I’m out when I’m not. As Blade1668 pointed out sometimes fuel stations can be a hundred or more miles away.
I always considered my Jeep to be part of my Earthquake preparedness kit. So when it gets around 1/2 tank I go fill it up. I figure a half tank should allow me to find my way out of an epicenter situation of downed bridges and such. I’ll never see that, but I’m partially prepared for it if I do.

I've only felt one earthquake here - that was in the later 1980s - it was enough to make you feel dizzy and make lamp shades wobble and freak out the cats. I watched a tall floor lamp wobble and thought - ok, the party was 2 days ago, what's up.

Here, my concern is:

or worse - those damn things freak me out. They are unnatural, spooky as heck.

So I need to get away, fast and far.
