Jeep engineers already played with this idea and had 2.0T test mules prior to model launch. Juice was not worth the squeeze to them to overcome cooling issues they ran into when doing any moderate towing.

I would personally like just a 5.3 LS in one. That would wake up this truck so much. I also think the oldie but goodie 4.7 HO would be super nice. My Jeeping buddy and I were looking at options last weekend as I just happen to have a low mileage 4.7 HO from the WJ days laying around. We crawled all over mine looking at what we needed to repower it and leave NOTHING OEM behind. Strip it down to body only, even the dash goes away.
I had a TJ that I swapped a non-HO 4.7 V8 in to. It was a fun Jeep.

My 2020 Ram 1500 Limited weighed in at ~6100lbs. Had 22" Rims on 32" tires. 3.92 gearing and got 22mpg on the highway. In rural settings it was crusing at 19mpg.

Had a Hemi V8.

It’s a great engine, I mean if ya have one that can hold together anyway. My last made it just short of 300 and flew apart cruising at 45, on a ‘03…weird. I handed so many Rubicons their fancy asses on trails with that WJ. I really want to stick this one I have now into this truck. Even have the 545 and 247 to go with.

I swapped in a 130k mile motor cause I had it. Wasn’t long after it was popping off rocker arms and dropped valve seats. So I bought a reman motor. Made it 15k miles before I accidentally ran it 30 mins with the radiator cap off and over heated it which killed it. But it ran good when it ran. ?

A 5.7L hemi would be every bit as efficient as the 2.0t in the JLs and more efficient than the 3.6L. Since 2017 we've owned a 2017 ram rebel 5.7L hemi, a 2019 jlur 2.0t, a 2022 jlur with the xr package 3.6L, and a 2023 JT mojave 3.6L. The 2.0t was only slightly more efficient than the 5.7L stock for stock and the ram weighed about 1500lbs more. Adding armor, tires, and lift to the 2.0t and the efficiency dropped to 15-16mpg. The ram still got 17-18mpg after a lift and tires. The JLUR 3.6Lgets 13-14mpg as does the JTM. I would bet money that the JT would get better mileage from a 5.7L than the 2.0t as the efficiency of the 2.0 goes out the window when it's pushing boost constantly.
Yeah we average 19-19.5 in our '19 JLUR 2.0t eTorque. Its been a great motor with more then enough grunt to keep me happy while driving an Amazon box on 37" KO2s

Sounds like a 4.7?
I got a lead maybe on 2500 Ram with low mileage 5.9 and 46RE. Now that would be a solid winner

Hell No!! It’s a damn shame the Tacoma, Colorado & Canyon ONLY OFFER the 4cyl. That’s it…… (gas only that is).

We’ll see what happens over the years. Either they’ll take off…… Or they’ll flop.

No offense, but I hope (in my lifetime), I’m not forced to pick an electric vehicle because that’s all they offer. ?
Right there with ya brother.

It's all the rage now. Iam curious how many of us are jealous of the new Tacoma powerplant and other trucks moving to smaller displacement motors.
I’ll take a 2.8L Cummins please.
not that I mind my 3.0. But the 2.8 would offer a bit more work around room :)

Not jealous at all. I'm actually wondering if they're jealous of me ?. My wife has an SUV with a turbo four and I don't like the wimpyness at the low-end (turbo lag) or the mid-range. Hybrid would help, but then you're adding complexity, which means less reliability. Hard pass for me - Thanks

As a Cummins field tech, I approve this message. Way better than some off brand Italian engine. Plus where Chrysler or who ever they are this month already supports the B6.7 would make more sense to one stop shop.

Much as I want to believe otherwise, small diesels in the US are dead in the water. There's too much bad press and too much govt interference to make them viable. Shame but diesels never really got off the ground here in the largest auto market in the world that isn't China. ROW they're everywhere though.

I rented a Dacia Duster diesel 6MT in Iceland and... it was basic transportation that got great MPG. Wish they sold them here for that reason-- it was a delightfully simple vehicle.

I would love to see a JT with a BMW B58, though. That motor is a beast... and was good enough for Toyota to slap it in the Zupra and Sir Jim to spec it for the Grenadier.
