If anyone gets stranded in a remote location with that stupid DEF countdown to 0, there's a way to jump relays to start the truck.

Just connect pins 30 & 87 on START/STOP relay, then do the same with STARTER relay.

This saved me from calling a tow truck, I hope it helps someone else.

Can you post some pictures when you get a chance of how you did it ?

I guess the bigger question is how long can you run your engine like that without DEF before something bad and costly happens?

It should run fine, but it's going to yell at you constantly and you'll have to jump the pins every time you start it. DEF is injected into the exhaust downstream of the DPF, (at least it was on my BMW). Doesn't ever touch the engine.

It's called Diesel Exhaust Fluid for a reason. It's all downstream of the engine, the only part of the vehicle that knows about DEF is the DEF injector and the computer shouting about it.

Do you have to remove the wire once started and put relays back in?

Thanks, still learning about these diesels. Wasn't sure if this was fix to get you to the next stop or if you could actually run the engine like this.

So then take jumper out and reinstall the relays?!
Technically you don't have to reinstall the starter relay, but must keep the run/stop jumper in place though.

Edit: better to make a jumper with a momentary switch so you don't need to removed until refilled with def.
