Thsts correct it is a licensed (inferior copy of the 8HP50 made by ZF , licensed to Chrysler as the 850RE ( Royal Error...thats a joke) ,
I digress it isnt as strong as it should be I have been babying mine along for 45,000 miles . This year I am slapping a new transmission in it . Working on saving the cash up. I have 116,000 on mine.

Unless you have the diesel, then it's a German built ZF unit.

100 % right. I just looked it up.The auto trans for the gas job JT is built in Germany, shipped to the U.S. and installed in Toledo Ohio. The artical say's it's one of the best and strongest transmissions around. The American built one is in the diesel. The German built one is better.

My dealer wants the oil service at 80k. I mentioned a couple years ago about the 50-60k but they still stick with the 80k. Not driven hard or offroaded. Thinking on waiting.

The ZF8 is one of the main reasons I bought the Gladiator. I got a chance to test drive a JL at Easter Jeep Safari on Baby Lion's Back. It had been a long time since I drove an auto off road and I was worried about it holding the gear and being able to engine brake correctly. An issue I'd had in the past was the transmission upshifting suddenly on a technical section and getting a ton of speed.

I was really impressed with the transmission and Jeep's programming of the transmission controller; that was the moment I knew I wanted one.

This is backwards :)

Diesel received the German ZF manufactured unit… gas received the American Clone. 🍺👍🏼

These transmissions are stout. Several x5’s and sq5’s making 700+ hp holding strong.

“Lifetime fluid” is in direct relation to the manufacturers expectations to the powertrain life expectancy correct? 150k miles :(
PPE pan and DIY changes every 50k for this guy. Super straightforward process. Definitely a driveway job.

Your correct 850RE made in Toledo. If it was the German version it would say 8HP50 on the build sheet .. there are just a few Gas that have one. 99.999% have the knock off version.
It's sorta like finding a diamond ring in a parking lot taking it to the jeweler for an appraisal to get cash out of it and finding out its a Cubic Zarconia !!

The 100k is to get CAFE credits for manufactures that is why and for sale for those who look at cost of maintenance in buying.

100k the trans will make it for for sure and pass the warranties period as well. It will however be with significant permeant wear. It will be real real black when drained. ZF released a memorandum which says 80KM or 50K Miles and on the subject and a video I have seen on youtube talking about it at 100KM or 63k Miles. If you off road and tow even sooner. A drain and fill at least every 30k if you want long life. Keep in mind, most of the oil still stay when you do a change. That's why 30k miles at least.

New on the left 50k miles on the right

I had a 2012 Jeep liberty before the Glad. 3.7 V6 4 spd auto with OD. I changed the oil and filter every 5K. I always used Pennsoil syntech 5W 20W what it called for. I had the trans fluid and filter changed every 40k to 50 K. Theanti freeze every 50 K. I never had a problem with the so called bad 3.7, or the auto trans. Only thing replaced other than regular things was a water pump at 40K . Then the heat damper acted up and the radiator leaked, also the bug for me to get a Glad. I traded it in. That truck saw a lot of miles going to the beach and on the beach. Take care of what you have.
