If you could do it again... Gas or Diesel?

I have had diesel Rams since 1996. However, the Cummins is far better than the 3.0 which continues to have bearing/crank failures. I think they are going to light engine oil for mpg and too little bearing clearance and stiffness for the forces on them, but tight clearances are needed with light oil. Also, driving range is not much if any better with the diesel, and maintenance, etc. costs are too high. Moreover, the attractiveness of the diesel has lessened with the strict emissions requirements.

I just want a larger gas tank (LOL). For my driving the Diesel is just not a good fit. Plus the cost to buy the truck and upkeep.

What’s telling so far in the pole is the number of “have diesel, would go gas” vs “have gas, would go diesel”.

I think gas is right for probably 80% of people. (Totally pulled that percentage outta my a@@. LOL)

Kinda the detail I'm hoping to suss out. There's bias in the same/same camp from self confirmation, and bias in the gas/diesel camp from late availability. This isn't exactly the most scientitious survey ever conducted, so I'm sure the error bars are HUGE. Still, data points is data points.

If a magically talking yeti in ballet slippers were to peek out from behind the doorway to my living room right now, and grant me a magical talking yeti in ballet slippers wish right now, I'd have added something to the effect of, "... and why?" I'm not new to diesels, but know just about zero about the ECO Diesel and what sort of issues it has. I have a Pentastar V6 sitting in the driveway now, and feel pretty good about it, but the fuel economy and high revs in a truck don't give me warm (blurry) fuzzies.

No issues starting mine at 0 degrees. It was a true cold start, hadn’t been plugged in.

I just traded my 2020 gas Rubicon for a 2021 diesel Rubicon (like 3 days ago). Love the torque and fuel economy of the turbo diesel! I picked it up with the Mopar diesel-specific 2” lift installed by the dealer (Gupton!). Going BFG KM3 37s as soon as the tires come out of being on National back order. I wouldn’t consider going 37s on my 2020 gasser. I guess you could regear, but that would cost about as much as the diesel option!

It was below zero at my house for over a week, my JL diesel sat outside the entire time & cranked without even plugging it in.

I had a gas 2020 maxtow and had issues with the 3.6L plus with a spacer lift and 35" (really a 33") it got 14.5mpg mixed. Went to the diesel and now i feel stupid for buying a gas one the first time It is better in every possible way aside from potential future out of warranty maintenance.

I’ve had plenty of diesel trucks, and all 7.3L non DEF. love that motor and if I needed Diesel power I would buy another full sized Ford with the 7.3L.

The diesel JT is cool, the torque would be nice, but 3rd gen diesel with the 1st 2 previous gens having issues isn’t proven enough for me. I’ll wait and see how well these new 3rd gens do.

The 3.6L is proven tech, reliable, decent power and mpg (I know some have had issues but I’ve had two now, one with 145,000 miles and one with 36,000 miles no problems). Plenty of friends that have them with zero issues.

I have a 22 Diesel it rips NO issues at all.
