Purchased this 2024 Rubicon X in January of this year. The engine has never sounded completely "normal" to me and seems to have a lot of valve train noise. I am well aware of the valve train issues the Pentastar 3.6 can have. I had a 2014 Jeep Wrangler. When I was up in Oregon a few years back with about 60,000 miles, I heard the minute a rocker went bad. I had to drive about 500 miles home before I could do anything. Took it apart and found a rocker had just barely started to eat the cam. The rocker was on the rear passenger side, I replaced all of the rockers and lifters in the entire engine, the cam had only minor amount of wear. After that, it ran like a champ.
I just returned from a 3000 mile trip with my Gladiator through Idaho, Oregon, and Montana. Many people during the trip would ask when it was running " is that a diesel.?" I currently have 7500 miles on the vehicle, Mentally, I have been in a state of denial. How could this happen on a brand new engine? Then I remember this is a Stellantis product. Listened with a stethoscope and the tick appears coming from the passenger side front valve. Next, I will pull the oil filter and look for metal. I think I will also send for an oil analysis. I have a dealer appointment on the 22nd of July. I am not throwing codes as of yet. I wonder how long it takes to eat into the cam to the point misfires occur? IS VVT that much nosier than the valve trains in the pre-2016 Pentastars?
I attached a video of the noise the engine is making, also a glamour shot. Does it sound normal to you?
Thanks
