Has anyone else had their Rear Axle Lock indicator Light just start flashing intermittently? I have a 22 Mojave with the 6 speed, centerforce clutch, and 35" tires.

I'm down in FL and hours away from a Jeep Dealer. I just took the wife to the airport on the FL Turnpike and was averaging 55 mph with bursts up to 85 mph. Dropped her off and after I got back on the turnpike the rear axle light lock started flashing. There was absolutely no change in the speed, sound, or feel while driving so I knew it wasn't actually locked. I hit the unlock switch to the left which did nothing. 30 minutes later it went off for about 10 miles and then kicked back in.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm assuming it's just an electrical gremlin that can be taken care of when I get back to MO in 2 weeks.

Do you think it's safe to drive back to MO this way to get to my dealer or should I bite the bullet and drive up to the nearest dealer? I just went over my three years of ownership but have the Mopar Maximum Care package for 8 years and 85K miles.

Thanks so much. I'm not going to pay $180+ for a screwed up sensor---because I have the extended warranty. If the dealer tells me they need to replace the whole axle then I'll do it.

Without the extended warranty I'd do it in a heartbeat. Amazon has tons of knockoffs far cheaper but the ratings suck unless it's the actual one from Z Automotive for $185.

I don’t think they replace the whole axle anymore that was a couple years ago and the wait time was real long. The sensor was not avalible separately they are now but back ordered. Mine failed on my 2021 at 91 miles, I was not waiting months for the whole axle, ordered the Z kit ,left Jeep sit until it came in about 3-4 days later installed and moved on. It starts with a light flashing every so often, then it starts coming on more then after awhile the Jeep decides to make lockers unavailable and message comes up. More than likely you have metal bits in the oil and it has gotten into the sensor. You can probably make it to your dealer but I would not try and engage locker and you will probably get more messages more often.
Of course you are listening to some old guy on a forum …..Jack

There is a sensor repair kit 68544629AA that includes 5 sensors marked 1 through 5 and basically try each one until the light goes out.

Irony is that either in 2023 or maybe it was 2024, they rolled out a redesigned sensor that seems to have a one piece molded design to stop the gear oil intrusion issue messing up the sensor. I do not know if that is backwards compatible or available for retrofit.

I have a 2023 Mojave did the same thing u set warranty. They knew exactly what the problem was when they saw it there is a seal that keeps oil out of the sending unit in the rear end if it leaks it lets oil in and shorts the sending unit. They replaced the sending unit and the seal fixed easy pezy

This. But unless you pot your new sensor, it will happen again. That’s why I have the z automotive fix, with a second one in the jeep with n case the front goes while I’m on a technical trail. More likely it’ll be a friend’s JT or JL and they’ll be able to continue.

It was explained to me that they have different tolerances depending on gear setups. I agree though.
