By that time it had MOPAR decals on it. My 87 did - funny to see some still say AMC and others clearly said "Chrysler Corporation" with the pentastar logo.
I think we had one of the last ones built in the AMC Windsor plant - it was ALL AMC. I don't recall seeing anything with Mopar on it at all. About 2 months after we bought it the dealer changed their signage from AMC to Mopar...

I could add - your Jeep had a top?
As I recall, my brother's first - a CJ7, didn't have a top - if it did, maybe he simply never used it. I'll have to ask.
Yup - had a real nice top, actually. We really liked the side curtains on the 1/2 doors - took maybe 15 seconds to remove them from the doors! We would take the top off in the spring and just use a bikini top until late fall.

Yeah, why lock doors when all you had to do is pull back a flap a bit and reach in.
Exactly!

Mine was a 1987 Jeep - with MOPAR decals, and it was made in the AMC plant.
The deal was final in 88 but things were already changing. Lee Iacocca wanted the Jeep name BADLY. Fact is, he wanted the Grand Cherokee really bad.

I know a couple of folks who have the very last AMC Eagles to roll off the line - I'll have to ask them if they also had the MOPAR decals. Iacocca didn't give a rip about the cars. In fact he ordered the destruction of spare parts, he said trash it all. They wanted Jeep and the wanted the new tech AMC was working on - the magnum engine heads and so on.

By not having the factory installed hard top, you'll have to get wiring for the defroster.

Rubicon has the wiring already. I think Sahara does too

Where would the decals be located? I recall the white "Jeep" lettering attached to the embossed "Joop" on the body in front of the doors; I don't recall any decals on the dash or anywhere else on the vehicle - the keys had the AMC logo on them. But then, we sold it in 2000 so my memory might be disappearing...

Emissions decal under the hood, there was one near the radiator that talked about coolant protection from the factory, seems I recall 3 or 4 decals under the hood. I can't recall but suspect like later Jeeps there was a belt routing decal on the fan shroud top.
A friend has a Comanche of her late husband's in her garage - I should ask her what year it is and if I can look under the hood to see what decals it has and if there are any with the MOPAR logo.
(I want that truck real bad- but was honest and told her of the value to collectors and Jeep people and never ever let it go cheap)

Honestly with the only 2 vehicles being "broken into" were convertibles and nothing taken (at least in your case except loose change) I would say you were more likely vandalized than broken into. It sounds less like someone wanting something from you rather than just wanting to do something to you. Almost worse and more annoying than someone doing to get something is them just doing it for nothing.

Sort of like a few decades ago, people driving along and shooting at windshields with a B-B gun, or driving along and taking a baseball bat to mail boxes (or windows) or simply "I'm bore, I want to destroy something". More common than folks would like to admit.

Considering the area I was in (not by choice), it was likely the local meth heads.. there were security cameras.. but I mean, they could have just been vandalising.. but if you're just vandalising, why go through all of my compartments and everything

I agree with this, but if i'm going to break into someone's vehicle and there is one I have to break a window and make the associated noise, or one next to it that I can just silently cut the plastic window and get in, I'm going to choose the latter every time. Nothing is 100% secure, its merely about deterring people and/or making it more difficult for them.

I know, in the past i have certainly just left my doors unlocked on my old YJ's with soft-tops but I imagine there is some legal "0 fucks given" by the Police and your Insurance if your car is broken into and it wasn't locked.
Between my wife and I we have over 54 years of Law Enforcement experience, and that experience tells us several things. 1. breaking a car window does not mean noise. Shatter rock (used spark plug porcelain) or a window punch from Manny Moe and Jack will do it quite silently. 2. a thief only enters a vehicle for two reasons, something is visible from the outside, and or they want to get into the console and dash. and, 3. adequate lighting can and will deter vehicle burglaries. Car Burglars are often times car thieves, and preventing the burglary can also prevent the theft. We park our 2020 JT under adequate lighting backed up by a Ring Camera array. Our Giant Schnauzer Atticus is trained to react to the Ring Chime Sound and will wake or alert us to any intrusion.

We wish all Jeep owners the very best, and do hope all will take preventitive measures to protect their property and lives.

The worst part about the whole thing in my situation is my wife is law enforcement.. we were at a hotel and she didn't like the parking spot, even with the cameras (that we didn't know weren't recording). My reaction was, we don't have anything in here, doors are unlocked... No biggie. They still cut the window out.. they didn't even try to just open the doors because they were avoiding the cameras. I feel better about it now with the hard top though. It is a harder target, imo.. even though I know if someone wants in, they'll get in.
