I won’t bet on that being backwards compatible.

I wonder if it might automatically connect to Badge of honor system, so that if you hit a trail while connected, you wont even need to use the app to document the start and finish of the trail?? hhmmmm

Not sure what the vehicle to vehicle pluging in was at the end since the battery range is so small on the new 4xe?? Any takers?

So Uconnect 5 is finally gonna arrive. I’d say the solid guess is the Wrangler will get it later this year with the MY 23 mid year refresh the. Gladiator will follow next year. But Jeep, what the hell man?!?! Your still going to stick that small ass 8.4” screen in there when you can remove that ugly rubber bezel and cram in the larger 10.1 like every other car nowadays?

Let’s also hope they work out the bugs. I see a plethora or Uconnect 5 issues on the GCL and Ram forums.
We have had nothing but issues with the UConnect 5 in our Grand Cherokee L. Currently waiting on an update that will fix some of them. Told a few weeks ago by the dealer that it is supposed to be out by the end of the year but that's getting close and nothing yet.

GCL forgets the keys tied to user profiles after a couple days. It never connects to the right drivers' phone. I have tons of issues with wireless android auto. It looked like such a neat feature but its been more of a pain in the butt! I hope they fix it before they put it in a Wrangler or Gladiator.

This is why I went ahead and ordered my 2022 Gladiator instead of waiting for UConnect 5. The issues made me decide it wasn't worth the wait!

So I have seen! We have a 2022 GCL Summit on order and all the issues in reading over on the WL forum are mind numbing. My build is still in C (ordered on 11/24) so hopefully it’ll have the updates installed from the factory and I won’t need to head back to the dealer just weeks after buying!

This will 100% be a subscription - SaaS - Software as a Service. You'll end up paying $50/mo or some shit.

I'm a huge fan of HUDs. Loved the one in my K900. Having blind spot information right there in front of me the whole time is awesome. It's probably my favorite new luxury feature. That being said, if it's tied to a subscription i'll live without.

Not sure why they haven't upgraded to the screen that is in the new Rams, integrating all controls into the touch screen and have integrated usb's at the top would allow people to not have so many wires for the other devices (GoPro, phone, other comms, whatever) and they would not even have to reinvent the wheel, FCA already has one in the part catalogue.....just sayin, but yes vehicle to vehicle comms without the need for external equipment would be sweet

Maybe even integrate Dash cams into the roll bar system (this way if your top/ windshield down they are still active)
I had the 12" screen in my 2020 Ram 2500. It looks nice, but was full of issues. The most frequently annoying was that they took the physical heated seat and steering wheel buttons away, so you had to either go into a menu or add them as icons on the bottom row. Carplay frequently disconnected. You couldn't use the built in nav and be connected to CarPlay at the same time (the built in was nice because it could use the entire screen), and at least once every other week it would loose all audio and the only way to get it back was to dig under the hood for the hidden inline fuse (nope, not in the fuse center!) and pull it. Once you put the fuse back in (or if you disconnected the battery) it would take days for all the apps to show back up, including the backup camera. It also didn't have any of the remote diagnostic info that the 8.4 does, even though they said it would (and then walked that back).

The system had great potential, but the software was half baked at best, and they showed no desire to actually fix the issues.

I have the same problems with my 2020 Ram with the 12" screen. I hate it. I used to have physical buttons in my 2017 Ram for all sorts of things and now I have to look at the screen for everything. It was really not a good change, in my opinion. I wouldn't get it again!

@jsalbre and @LJRome, maybe it would be a good system once the bugs are worked out, sorry you had issues, the concept at least is good, lmao

I actually agree. I like the concept but they have a lot of work to do to get it right. We have not been happy with the 12" screen in the Ram and the UConnect 5 10.1" screen in the GCL. I am hopeful that once they work out the bugs, they will be better. At least in the GCL, we still have physical buttons for frequent used items like the heated seats and steering wheel. That was my biggest gripe about the Ram, they eliminated most of the buttons we had in the previous Ram, forcing one to use the screen for nearly everything. Very distracting while driving, to say the least. With physical buttons, I would learn where they were and be able to feel for the button without looking down. The concept is great but they have improvements to make for sure.

To everyone thinking this is cool-- Bet your bottom dollar this is all subscription based, and it will be as overpriced as the guardian thing, which I let expire long ago.

PASS.
