One year to the day that I bought my first Jeep, Gobi became available. Lets be clear about this: there is no color that fits a Jeep as well as Gobi does! My plan was to trade in my firecracker red JT if Gobi ever became available again, only reason I would ever trade in my beautiful Rosalita. I didn't expect Gobi to come back so soon, however this should not be a problem as Jeeps hold their value so well and it seems everyone on this forum gets great offers. Yesterday I went fishing for offers on my 2021 well loaded Sport S with 8,500 miles and an original MSRP of $48,050. So lets take a look at my offers:
Carvana $32,054
Kelly Blue Book $36,819
Vroom $37,960
Autolenders $39,2000 -estimate

OK so I didn't pay MSRP for my JT, got it from Tri-City Jeep at 6% under in voice. Still some real lowballing going on here. So lets look at my loaded Sport S one year later:
2021 $48,050
2022 $52, 725
That's a $4,675 price increase for the next model year with the same options. Also got $2,000 in incentives for the 2021, Jeep currently has no cash offers for 2022 models. Would also have to pay sales tax 6.25 % in New Jersey and dealer fees again. When I tally up the numbers, selling my JT and ordering a new Gobi will set me back about $12,000 + and in return I get Gobi, proximity doors (not by choice, Jeep shenanigans shuffle Popular equipment & technology packages) and the new model year.
Rosie and I will just celebrate her birthday and continue our adventures together...
You say 'there is no color that fits a Jeep as well as Gobi does', I beg to differ. When I bought my JT I had a choice on the lot of either a Gobi or the Gator........ I chose the

I got a base sport with no power windows and no power locks and I have 45,500 miles on mine and the Joe Maus DJR offered me $40,500 for mine about 2 weeks ago and offered $3000 off any other jeep they had on their lot. That price seems kinda low for yours. Mines a Gator also so it being the real best color made that maybe why:CWL::CWL::CWL:

Being real though I did get the $40,500 offer and that was if I bought a another vehicle from them or not.

This is mine, I only paid $37,100 out the door 2yrs ago for it, it's a 2020 model bought in February of 2020. I only have about $3500 in upgrades with lift, tires, and bumpers front and rear and winch so basically I'd only be down about $1,000 if I sold. I got no intention of selling but KBB and Caravan had me at $34,000 cash offer but once I took it around to a few places the lowest I was offered was $39,000, most were between $39,000 and $40,000. I suggest you take it to a dealership and see what they say. Around my area there are not a lot on the the dealership lots when it comes to pretty much anything that's is a Hot item.

I placed my order in January and there was a pretty significant price increase (ended up ~ 1700 more MSRP). I ended up changing a couple options since I had a planned budget I wanted to meet. Pretty frustrating when it could have been better equipped AND cheaper if I had ordered a couple weeks prior to when I made the decision. Pending when you purchased, it doesn't surprise me that there is a 4K difference in MSRP over the course of a year in our current environment, regardless of trade in cost.

Not sure how trade-in's work in your state, but some states allow sales tax only on the difference in trade in value and the new vehicle purchase. If that is the case, it might make financial sense to trade in the vehicle at the dealership even if they give you a lower offer.

Ill join the gator crowd saying it's the best with Gobi a close second. It is tempting, as I'd enjoy making it a Jurasssic Park themed build and the kids would love it too, but with the inline 6 and electrification in the not too distant future, I'm going to enjoy my rig for a few paid off years and then jump on one of those. I'll probably still get $25-$30k for a Jeep I paid $39k for

Trading in to offset the taxes blows up my under invoice pricing. So I’ve been considering and researching every option for a few months now.

I’m not looking to make a profit, just get Gobi at a reasonless loss. Number crunches are at below invoice pricing for the 2022. I took my JT to a dealer that was interested a few months ago & they offered me $42,000. At the time vroom was also offering & 42,000. I suspect the dealer will throw me an offer similar to Vrooms current one.
?
Also took it to 3 other dealers.
? was the best offer.

Maybe try getting a price out of state for it at another dealership. Search dealerships in the area within 500 miles of you. I'll bet that if you find a area where dealerships are bare then you will get a better price and be closer to your goal of not losing as much on yours and want mind paying the extra for the Gobi. Your just keep yours, sounds like your more or less talking yourself out of the Gobi. If you really want one then you will buy it, even if it means losing a little on your red one

You are correct, if I really want a Gobi I will get it. The question is how much am I willing to be set back for a color.
Realistically even with a good offer on my current Jt & under invoice on a 2022 it’s still a substantial hit. Your 500 mile radius idea is a good one, so thanks.
More than anything think I just needed an outlet to vent, so thank you everyone for their replies.

I bet you can get it painted Gobi for less than 12 grand.
Wrapping could be a good option too. A lot of the panels are pretty flat, and if you are willing to do it yourself it can be pretty cheap. You can also pretty easily rewrap sections if your one who is annoyed by trail rash and you accidentally scratch up a panel or something

There are a few issues with your logic here ...

Firstly is the notion that "they" are pricing you out of the market ... Who are "they" ? Jeep is following market trends .. And the market is pricing you out of the market ... The market plus some unrealistic timing and expectations on your part ...

Secondly, Jeeps have great resale but only waiting one model year will not take advantage of that ... Only waiting a single model year (where the maximum depreciation is) is never going to yield good results ... You lost thousands the second you drove it off the lot ...

Thirdly, these are unprecedented times and the market (not jeep) is unhealthy and not working in a normal fashion ...

In any event, the idea of accepting a loss (a significant one) for a color seems unrealistic to me but hey you do what you need to do ...

Again, if your going to "keep it forever" why on earth would you take a loss of thousands when you can just paint the thing and be happy ?
