Bumping this -- my dealer wanted over $500 including tax to do this service. Bought the filter online for $65 and 20 minutes later it was done. Going to ask a different service advisor when I'm there to pick up my 392 there just to see if I get a different answer, because that's insane and feels like I got quoted wrong.
You got quoted wrong. The diesel filter is like 60 bucks and takes 15 min to change. My dealer charges .75 hrs, must be a minimum charge or something. They even told me it takes less then 20 min. And I do mine in the driveway in 15.

Just had mine changed last week. Dealer charged me $170.00. $68 for the filter and the rest in labor. Next time, I'm doing it myself.

Iā€™ll say this. I fallowed the priming procedure fully and mine still took two tries to start. And then it ran rough for a couple minutes. I didnā€™t like hearing it run like that lol.

Ram owners have attributed the dry start/air in the lines to the cp4 failing. Not sure if the 4.2 is any more resistant to this but this is why FASS makes so much money selling air/water seperators.

I probably would have paid that. Sucks for them.

I've changed it twice now. The first time I followed the priming recommendation to a tee and it still stuttered a bit more than I liked. This last round I just primed it once, then went about my honey-dos (on a Saturday) around the house and randomly primed it about 5 times over the course of an hour or two. Primed it one last time before picking up dinner that evening and it fired right up like normal w/ zero stutter.

So far so good w/ 7k-ish on the Doc Diesel filter btw.

Long time ram owner here to include a 2019 2500. No one attributed CP4 failures to dry lines. Itā€™s been documented CP4 failure even before 1st filter changes.
You guys be happy it may take a few cranks to prime it. Used to be a bigger pain in the ass to do

Has anyone found an aftermarket skid plate for the fuel filter? After watching a guy destroy his on the rubicon Im thinking its a good idea to have a sturdier skid plate.

All the diesel-specific total-underbelly skids I've looked at cover the fuel filter, and have a special hatch for service

Bump... after taking my new truck to the local OHV park and getting my first feel for how much it high centers and scrapes the belly - I'm now more concerned about that fuel filter cover than I was. Maybe that will drive me to an expensive belly skid earlier than I might have? (Full lift kit was already inevitable)

Anyway that led me to finding this https://www.asfir.com/skid-plate-541171.html @kilroy173

Make sure you take a hard look at the belly pans.
Iā€™ll be going artech and it requires minimum 1.5ā€ lift? Maybe a 1ā€ā€¦. But you get my point. ??
