I mostly see Rubicons and Sports. Rarely an Overland or Mojave.

I really want the Mojave to work for me since the majority of my off road will be Assateaugue Island beaches and fire roads in WV and Western MD, and daily driver use from time to time.

But the lower towing and payload capacity make it not as attractive, and far too many reviews I've read caution against towing with the Mojave as is.

I'm likely ordering a Rubicon to get up to 7k towing with the sways and then maybe down the road consider doing remote reservoir shocks to soften the ride.

I bought a Sport S...diesel, I wanted a Mohave but I wanted a Diesel More. Funny thing is that air scoop would come in handy keeping temps down in the engine compartment.. If they ever make a Mango Tango Mohave Diesel, it will be time to trade it in!

I see a lot of both Rubicon and Mojave models around here, but I’m thinking that about 75% of the Rubies virtually never see a dirt road, let alone a real rock crawling trail. Even the ones with big lifts and racks and Rotopacks and snorkels and off road lights……
I'm betting none of the Camaros, corvettes, or mustangs you see have ever seen 170 mph, either. How many hellcats have run the quarter in 11.8 seconds? If everyone bought what they really needed, 95% of vehicles on the road would be minivans.

The wife and I go to street legal races at brained international raceway a couple times a month and there are lots of corvettes, camaro’s, a couple helcat’s. There is also Ram diesel truck that does the 1/4 mile at 140-150 mph.

Yes. That's why I said 95%. I wheel my jeep, and when I had a sports car, I took it to the strip too. But most don't on either. And that's fine with me, because without the people who don't, there aren't enough who do to justify production. For a lot of folks, the first jeep is the gateway drug too. I didn't realize I even liked off-road driving until we had our TJ Wrangler, but that's not why we bought it. We bought it because it looked cool, had 4wd for snow, and the roof came off.

Just wondering about the Mojave model, for me it looks like a better fit for my use over the Rubicon. I'm not a rock crawler so 95% of my driving will be pavement and not much off roading. The Mojave has a good look to it and I can get it with just about everything I want stock from the factory build. I had the Willys before and really like it, but the Mojave just has a better look and sets taller for my liking, do note here, I do not lift my vehicles, so factory stock is where mine will stay. I'm an older guy and will only drive 5-7 thousand miles per year, actually it's more of a toy and not needed for everyday use.
Nothing but smiles since mile one. My use case is the same as yours. It’s fantastic. As far as popular, I have no idea.

As others have noted, in FL I've also seen more Mojave's than Rubicon's. I also went with Mojave over Rubicon because I felt that I wouldn't be lifting or putting larger tires on, and most of my offroad would be normal trails - not rocks.
The one thing I wish I could have gotten from the factory was the steel front bumper. It sounds dumb, but it almost made me want a Rubicon over Mojave. Another thing, I kind of like the stock Rubicon wheels and hood over the Mojave (though not that much more). But I like the accent colors and interior cloth of the Mojave over Rubicon, as well as the suspension. I'm still glad I went with the Mojave over Rubicon - though I would still love that factory steel bumper.....

Lack of selectable front locker baffles me. Why can't it be an option?

Sit in a Mojave and grab the wheel. Then do the same in a Rubicon. The upgraded interior bits in the Mojave are so much nicer. Yes, I know you can add same to a Rubicon. You can also add a front locker and SBD to a Mojave.

1. Rubicon is their iconic trim. Front locker on a mojave makes Rubicon feel second place. Mojave unique features are all minor but there are over a dozen. Rubi unique features are front locker, 4:1 case, and sbd, with the locker being the biggest party piece. They were smart to do it the way they did imo.
2. Front lockers aren't really a thing in desert racers. The raptor doesn't have a front locker, the trx doesn't, the Tacoma doesn't. It's only available in the glad and the zr2. Some desert built trucks don't even have 4wd. Prerunners are rwd with a locking rear.
