What is the width and backspace on your wheels? Here’s a few of mine. 45k miles on the Patagonia’s. The 13.50’s tuck nicely without rubbing.

fuel lethalsWhat is the width and backspace on your wheels?
I can get 18mpg on my 37s with 3.73s… granted I have cooper at3s which are very light. It is flashed for the tire size though and I really feel like that helped.I’ve been running 37’s on 4.10’s for about 2 years now. I see low 13’s around town and mid 14’s on the highway and my rig is heavy as it’s built out for overlanding. I feel like I have good jump off the line in town but I also don’t see 8th gear unless I’m on a flat or downhill.
I vacillate on regearing because I know it’s the “right thing” to do but when I regeared my Wrangler from 3.73 to 4.56 I only noticed about a 1 mpg improvement; so, I struggle with finding the time and value to do it. Especially when I consider that my gas mileage on the Gladiator isn’t a whole lot different than my Wrangler.
Noted, but my question is if you did re-gear, wouldn't that (overall) be better for your tranny and engine if you wanted to keep it for the long run?I’ve been running 37’s on 4.10’s for about 2 years now. People are breaking Dana 60s on 42s. Unless you plan on breaking your axle to upgrade, that’s a terrible ideaWith truss's, gussets, and all that, 42s are doable for the Rubicon/Mojave axles but you play a VERY risky game anytime you push it.
There’s pros and cons from a reliability perspective (FWIW, I’m a retired Reliability Engineer, albeit not from the automotive industry). One downside to a regear, which can technically work against reliability, is that the taller the gear you install has to fit more teeth into the same space. This means that the gear teeth are “thinner” than the smaller gear ratio teeth. Depending on how abusive your wheeling is you could be more susceptible to breaking gear teeth.Noted, but my question is if you did re-gear, wouldn't that (overall) be better for your tranny and engine if you wanted to keep it for the long run?
ok, thanks for the info. My Mohave is my first Jeep. Learning alot. I have a 2" AEV lift and 37's, truck (stock) has 4.11 I believe. Do you think I should go 4.56 or 4.88? I live in Las Vegas, do mostly around town driving, but on the freeway I noticed it doesn't usually go into 8th gear. It's pretty flat here, except off-road of course. There’s pros and cons from a reliability perspective (FWIW, I’m a retired Reliability Engineer, albeit not from the automotive industry). Taller gears mean lower RPM’s and can mean a longer life for other components.
Personally, I’m comfortable with the pros/cons and it really boils down to what you are trying to achieve with the regear. It was worthwhile-ish on my Wrangler because of the 3.73’s. I’m not as sure about going up on my Gladiator.
Looks great! No roof no doors !

you just did brother!!!!! But we all agree on both pointsI will never admit it in a group of guys, but you’re right.
My Mojave has 37's and stock 4.10's. This is my 1st Jeep, so I have alot to learn and I wasn't sure months ago if I need to regear, but now - It runs fine, 8th gear is here and there on highway, but other than that I think a re gear in my situation is not needed.Thanks. For what I use it for was good for me but I’m sure guys wI’ll say no.
