Anybody else have lifter noises?
I cannot hear them from inside the truck but sure can outside at idle. I know that years ago every 2.2 and 2.5 made the same noises and they ran forever.
1,500 miles, varied break-in, haven't done anything actually hard on it yet. No oil change yet. Oil level is good etc..

Yep, I was concerned also until I checked with my dealer. It did seem to quite down after a couple of oil changes, or maybe I'm just used to it. I do believe using a high quality oil, I use Amsoil-just a personal choice, did make a difference

Probably has to do with the 0W20 water they call oil that they're putting in these motors.

Change it up to 5W30. The 3.6 in my JKR ticked a bit at first, so I switched to 5W30 with high moly. Redline or Pennoil Ultra Platinum.

I just know how Chrysler's used to make a lot of lifter noise.

I will be switching to 5W-30 probably Schaeffer, we already use them in the buses. They do make a 5W-20 as well, But I am old and like heavier oils.

I hear the ticking first start of the day for about 10 seconds, and then it quiets. Have had 1 oil change so far, and nearing time for the second. Will be paying attention to it, and anxious to hear what others are hearing.

They've all moved to these thinner oils in the search of an extra MPG here or there, at the cost of engine wear, poor film strength and even poorer dry lubrication. You also burn more oil with the thinner oils, shortening the life of cats and carbon deposits on the valves.

No thanks. 120k miles on my JKR and it runs perfect. Blackstone results come back perfect every time.

Jeep recommends 0-20W....so putting 5-30W would be ok? I really don't like the thin oil myself...I used 5-30 in my dakota 4.7 and it still runs strong.

As far as I know there are no differences in the engine between my 2012 JKR and a current 2019-2021 JT or 2018-2021 JL 3.6 Pentastar engine. 5W20 and 5W30 are the recommended oil weights for my JKR according to the manual. The only logical reason they switched to 0W20 was to help meet fleet CAFE standards. Squeeze an extra MPG out here and there. Plus it's probably less wear on the starter for ESS. I'm disabling that nonsense anyways, so.

There's nothing wrong with running a heavier weight oil, to an extent.

According to the dash, when warm I have 29 lbs oil pressure at idle but it doesn't get above 30 until 1,800 rpm.

I definitely noticed the noise and was concerned since out Promaster had the same engine and was almost dead silent.

I don't know if the PM's silence was due to the engine being buried 2' under the van or just something different.

After 13,300 miles in 3 months, my opinion has become;

" No smoke, good performance and excellent fuel mileage on the Gladiator; so I chalked the noise up to just that, some noise."

I just had my 3rd yesterday, it was much quieter!

I would stick to what Jeep recommends. 0W-20 oil is used yes for MPG but also is lighter which helps send oil to the cams upon start up (which is the biggest cause of engine wear when cold). I saw a video where Scotty Kilmer recommended it (which imnot a huge fan of him but this makes complete sense and he is a mechanic). As long as you keep the oil changed regularly.

See (Around 4:30 Mark):

Mine sounded similar on cold start-up in the morning. Ended up with scored cylinder walls and a replaced engine. This was @ 1100 miles
