Will the JT get better steering?
Will spazzy like his "new" Jeep?
Will Jeff finally ask out Denise?
Check in next time for another episode of, "My Jeep is Dangerous!"
Love it! LOL

I can make mine do this exact same thing. However if I move the wheel slowly it responds promptly. I really think a lot of this is the electronic steering simply compensating for quick movements and not reacting.

I did reduce my tire pressure but I did that more for just the bounding down the road issues
Have you seen this? Granted, it's for the JL, not JT, but sounds like it's up your alley. It's completely not applicable to us Gladiator guys, but I do wonder if something like this would be in the works?

That's interesting but it doesn't pertain to us specifically. However i would venture to say that there is something that will be done if they get the same complaints about all our Gladiators.

Well done! First success story from a dealer on this forum! Now for the result...many here will be waiting to hear back if the new box fixes it.

BTW, the success story is the dealer admitting that it is not OK.
So I went to visit my serv mgr today. We talked about this so called revised steering box that someones brothers uncles cousin was saying might come out soon. I told him I am not waiting for this magic to happen and he agreed. He said he will contact them (star) and if it’s gonna be more than 2 weeks he’s just gonna order a non-revised new one. Should find out 2moro for sure. Glad to here someone else is on the right track too. One of the things I did to show him was this... I had him watch the steering wheel while I moved the steering shaft with little effort, just open ur hood and reach in there (engine OFF). I said I can make an appt for you guys to check the over center torque/lash on this box, but you can see now thats its definitely bad.

Side note: I sent 4 of the best youtube vids to the NHTSA that show our problem. Who knows, maybe someone who cares will see them.

Here is a quick video I made this morning showing what my steering issue looks like. I put some vinyl strips on the steering wheel to get a better idea just how far I have to move the steering wheel to make a correction. Its kind of a long video but worth a watch.

Each vertical strip is approx 1 inch apart.

Very similar to mine I'd say. Mine resulted in a replaced (or rather a to-be-replaced) steering box. We'll find out what it did for me in the next couple days.

The JTs I've test driven did NOT do that. Would have resulted in swerving.

BTW, the dark music matched the dreary steering. Yuk. Cue the Volbeat!

It definitely results in a lot of swerving. Especially in the wind!

And love me some Audioslave!

I'm glad to hear that there are some out there that definitely don't do what mine does and I hope they can fix these asap!

Well I received a call back from Jeep today on a survey i filled out about the poor steering. It seemed that since i took it to the dealer already they were willing to escalate it to technical support. I had them escalate it and have an actual case #! We will see where that goes. They said I should receive a follow up call in the next 24 hours.

My dealer also said they felt my steering was unsafe. They ordered a new gearbox and it will be installed on the 23rd. Fingers crossed that this fixed it. But weird that it is unsafe but they let me drive it around for 2 more weeks. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well we know it's not all blue JTs, and it's not all Overland JTs and it's not all blue Overland JTs as mine is a blue overland and it steers fine.
Ah, but maybe it's only the blue Overland JTs in NC........on a Thursday with a full moon. hmmmm

Did their business manager also take out a life insurance policy on you while they were setting up your appointment?

I'm just glad to see dealers actually acknowledging the issue and escalating and attempting to fix it. That's worlds apart from when some of us started going to dealers and them just saying it supposed to be like that.

I suspect we have reached the summit, so to speak - the work to get here was all up hill. Took time to convince, took numbers for them to see hey, maybe there IS something to this, and maybe they are hearing back down from the top - pay attention, we may have an issue?
It's sort of funny when I look back at the dozens of books, hundreds of "service letters" I have for another brand and reading the communications "if a customer complains of..........." and what is said in some cases. And - the TIME involved - sometimes months, some of those service letters are dated 1980 for example and cover issues with 1979 or prior model years.

If someone right now made an aftermarket steering box that I could just swap out like for like, I'd do it in a second to prove it. Nothing better than taking that back to the dealer and saying "See, it's not a Jeep thing, it's a bad steering box thing". I will continue to fight this fight, but I'm being honest when I say at this point, I'm ready for an aftermarket solution that just makes my Jeep drive safely and correctly. I don't care about the money, I care about the safety.

It's frustrating that FCA's stance is to just live with it and that it's normal. It seems lately in the auto industry if people aren't dying then it's not worth the money to make customers satisfied. They would rather you drive around in something you resent...very bizzare American car company attitude.

I have this stance. I am just wanting to fix it with aftermarket so I can fully enjoy my truck
