The recall being the cause, it would not surprise me if M/T were not back on again until the 2021 model year. I expect all the initial production of the improved clutch will be sucked up with recalls of Jeeps already on the road. That's both JLs and JTs. And they have to stop taking orders for 2020s at least two months before 2020 production switches over to 2021.

Rubbish? I don't think I said that, the gearing isn't the issue. The main issue with the manual is the abysmal towing ...
I completely agree that the manual is rubbish if your mission is to take all your worldly possessions with you wherever you go. ;-)

Seriously, we've no idea how the Gladiator's manual would compare to a Ram, Ford or Chevy because they don't exist. The only other options for a manual enthusiast are the Frontier or Tacoma. Not sure how their towing capabilities stack up.

If towing were equal I'd have still thought about it ...
You've already stated that you wouldn't buy any modern vehicle with a manual.

Now this really does suck. You guys on hold caught a break, IMO. Much better remedied on the assembly line.

One of my big issues with a recall of this magnitude is I don't trust my nearest dealership to even change a battery.

Well at least there's our answer on if it's dead or not. Not dead, just halted due to the recall and everyone that already has a manual is getting a new pressure plate and possibly a new clutch depending on what they figure out the fix is.

Hopefully no more fires take out anyone's trucks in the meantime!

Not to worry, Clutch, pressure plate, fly wheel, are easy changes... Basically wear items that are designed to be changed during the life of the vehicle. Surely, the dealer can handle that.

Not sure how I should feel about all this. Ordered my M/T JTR in December and took delivery in mid-February. Last week, with about 600 miles on the engine, the clutch pedal failed (bottomed out). After a tow into my dealer, they replaced the master cylinder. Based on their reporting, they attempted to bleed the brakes several times. When they took it for a test drive, the clutch pedal failed again in the exact way as it did for me. After a closer inspection, they reported noticing a hairline fracture in the “new” master cylinder. Now I am waiting on a third master cylinder to be installed early next week. The service department has been very professional about all this, but I wonder how this all relates to the recall and a stop on MT orders. I just want to be out Jeeping right now....

Did I mention that I don't even trust my dealership to change a battery?

Really I'm speaking of my Ram dealership. I've not had any dealings with the nearest Jeep dealership but it has the same owner and is just across the street from Ram. It is a separate garage, so maybe they're better. There are other options that are not nearly as convenient but I'll probably go to one of them.

I'm also jaded because my wife had the clutch in her G37 replaced by the local Infiniti dealership and it felt horrible afterwards. Took much more force to disengage and not nearly as smooth as if they replaced the spring with one from a Mac Truck. When she traded it in a year later at the same dealership, they asked us what was up with the clutch. She fired back, "that would be a question for your service department!"

I've done a few clutch replacements. Not that I would want to, or at all likely that I would, but I wonder if there is a way to get just the parts under warranty.

Have your local garage do the replacement - doesn’t that usually get reimbursed for a recall?

Great idea and hope that's an option -- I'll definitely look into that when the time comes.

Im supposed to be purchasing a MT off the lot on Monday. Im just finding about all this (possible recalls and such) now. Should i be worried? I try to keep up to date on this forum and so far havent heard of too many people having issues with there MT. So my gut instinct is to go ahead with it. Thoughts?

I would go ahead with it. Do not power shift it... and count on getting a brand new clutch and pressure plate later in it's life for free from FCA. Not so bad... They are wear items anyway.

Get it, buy the gap, drive it like you stole it, and from the sounds of things, you'll likely end up with a fresh clutch in a recall.
