I have built in pretty stout torque management on the 850Re. The torque converter should unlock on a down shift and allow the gear to slide in. I actually have been working to make that a smoother transition.

This was complete unexpected as I have about 400 hours of data on this version of 2021 tune.

I have nothing solid to go off of here. Anything would be speculation.

And as far as how things are going, that is all Ryan he is being a very reasonable about this.

I am pretty rattled.

Before today I would of swore up and down this platform can be made to work reliably long term, now I have no leg to stand on
I don’t think this has much to do with your tune at all Dave I really don’t. It’s not like your tuning these things lean to make as much power as possible, your going for safety and reliability. I’m curious what the A/F was at time of the failure. It’s a shame Ryan wasn’t data logging at that time it would have possibly helped you guys track the failure. Could have been bad fuel who knows. You would think if it was bad fuel it would have pulled timing etc. The fact is, we have rods and pistons in there that weren’t designed for anything more than N/A cylinder pressure. There isn’t a ton of guys running these blowers out there. The more guys that run them and put them through the paces, the more failures we will see I’m sure. How much boost does the stock pulley make?

Funny thing is…I was planning on doing some runs and getting logs for him this weekend.

Well this sucks man. Sorry to hear. Im in California as well. Makes me want to buy forged internals and build a motor. Hope everything works out for your build and you find a way to get it fixed quick.

2JZ and N54 this is not. If you can, protect yourself.

I’m amazed and impressed by how well Ryan and Dave have dealt with this situation.

In terms of the 392 swap I don’t think you’ll pass smog in CA. I know you have a few years before you’ll need to smog it but it could be an issue if you want to keep it long term. I believe you have to replace it with the same 3.6L to pass.
Yeah the only way for a 392 engine swap to pass is if Jeep makes a Gladiator with one. Wranglers you can legally swap thanks to the 392.

Which is frustrating and doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. It’s going to be the same emissions, except maybe the *slight* mpg decrease due to weight/size? But imo that’s offset by the fleet size…they sell way more Wranglers than Gladiators.

I highly doubt any factory components used in penatstar are built for force induction stress. Without force induction, plenty of stock penatstar already failed. I had one that dropped it's valves at 13k miles!

U want to play gotta to play. If I am going to pay for aftermarket supercharger, I rather give jeep that $4000 for diesel engine upgrade which comes with warranty

Another of us have had good luck, but chrysler has made the throttle a super bar puzzle. The key is having Uber safety measures in the tune to release the pressure when stuff goes sideways. I have that, but for whatever reason, it did not save Ryan. I have a guy that hooked a super heavy trailer up to his directly after Install and pulled it hundreds of miles. He messaged and said it was down on power. I looked at the data and told him his trailer was super heavy and it was protecting itself. He weighed the trailer and came back with a number that surprised both of us. Truck did fine just moved slower.

If you purchase the Magnuson Supercharger, get it installed by a certified installer and use Magnuson tune, they give you 36k powertrain warranty from install date. Superchargers are $7.5k not 4k thats before being installed.

So, to avoid this, is it really just a matter of purchasing those forged internals that have been in the marketplace for so long? What am I missing?

@DAVECS1 , I literally just sent you an email and now see this. Can you pm me or email me a factory tune so I can pull the Magnuson out and fix my engine? It’s obviously hurt and has not been daily driven since March. To others that don’t know, Dave has been working on my ā€˜21 Mojave since March, and just when the tune was getting to be perfect, I had camshaft issues. I’ve since replaced most all of the upper valvetrain that can be done without pulling the heads, and I still have a rattle. My guess is a stretched big end since it has all new VVL solenoids, all lash adjusters/cam followers replaced, all 4 cams replaced, and both intake phasers/actuators replaced. I believe my Gladiator is just a few rpm’s away from a hole in the block or pan. This has been an absolute nightmare since I have basically ruined a Jeep I ordered to my specs. My wife is already searching for a GM replacement (Escalade), and I’m contemplating getting a replacement engine (3.6) and just trying to reverse the Magnuson install altogether. It will be for sale shortly.
