Mopar Brake Controller install requires programming?

So I went to my dealer today and asked what I needed to install the brake controller and they gave me the parts but also said that it has to be programmed. I thought it was plug and play. He said it would take about an hour of programming. Is this accurate?

I have a Curt Bluetooth brake controller. Attaches to the trailer port and controls everything by app. Much cheaper and easier.

I installed mine without any programming or issues.

Before the integrated mopar controller I used the curt echo and loved it. I just wanted to have one integrate4d so I could pull my mothers with out having to remember to keep the curt echo in my truck.

I installed the Mopar brake controller. My Gladiator is 2021, tow package, 80th Anniversary. Was plug and play with no dealership programming needed. Have used it many times with my trailer. Works well. One downside is you lose the cig lighter.

No programming needed. Maybe if you don’t have the tow package but as long as you have it you should be good to go.

Maybe if you don’t have the tow package but as long as you have it you should be good to go.

No, never - not at all, ever.
The brake controllers don't react or interact with ANY part of the truck.
If it's a 2020 built before January 2020, then the ABS needs an update, but that's it.

Mojave has the same tow rating as Overland - they don't differentiate between tow package or no tow package.

Naw, I've run the mopar trailer brake controller on two Gladiators now, and it's fine, it's not a bad install once you get past their original worthless instructions that were incorrect.
It works fine. Looks good like it should be there.

It's not that hard of an install, to be honest the trailer light wiring was more involved on my wife's Wrangler.
I have a 21 JLURD with the Mopar kit and a 22 JTRD with the RedArc controller. Both are about the same to install and use. Only real difference is the RedArc left me the 12v plug in the 22.
The only real reason I did the RedArc on the 22 was I could get it sooner.

Oh ya, no dealer programming with either of mine.

Your dealer is full of shit. No programming is needed for the Mopar
