The old school style knee-buster is what I have but I also put it there with double-sided velcro tape so I can take it off when not in use. I completely get the aesthetics and all but it doesn't bother me. Definitely a to each their own in that regard.
Now that is a good idea. I don't notice the one in my van at all honestly, but the tight quarters of the JT the same one would really be bothering me.

For sure, my Android quick charges off the USB-C media port, but NONE of the iPad/iPhones fast charge off the USB-A. I have a 2 x 2.4a A and C charger on that cigarette lighter, I ain't giving that up!

The Bluetooth Curt works just fine for what we need (for <50% of that OEM unit). Kinda glad this stupid factory unit took so long to appear.

My LG android devices SLOW charge off the USB ports - any of them. For a fast charge I bring the charger and plug it into the 110 outlet on the back of the console. THAT fast charges.

The USB-C ports in the JT are garbage. The type C is really just for show and can't even do 18watt PD. I use the A port in the console since it seems to output slightly more power. My phone can take more charge wireless-ly than than the JT can even put out via those ports.

Yes. Me too. It’s just that MOPAR has to sell it or...... no soup for you.

I see Mopar genuine parts and Mopar parts online but those companies are not Mopar. That’s why they have the extra wording in their names. They will take your money but you will not get a trailer brake controller. That has been the case for over a year.

They get their parts from - The same place your dealership parts department does - MOPAR. These places sell Mopar parts from Mopar in Mopar bags and boxes.
Ones I have dealt with don't take your money until the item is in their hands.

Maybe you have a direct line to Jeep parts depots, though.

Admin Update:

The part # for the Mopar Trailer Brake Controller is
  • 82215652AB
I tried ordering this through the Mopar app when I purchased my JT last month. The local dealer emailed my and said my order was declined. When I called them they said it was because it wasn’t available at that time. After seeing this post, I ordered it again. Just received the same email again!
Screw this! I’m buying something aftermarket! Really hope someone at FCA gets their shit together and figures this out.

Mopar Introduces New Factory-backed Trailer Brake Controller for Jeep® Gladiator

October 13, 2020 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - Mopar, FCA’s service, parts and customer-care brand, is enhancing the towing experience of the Jeep® Gladiator with the release of a new trailer brake controller.

The new Mopar trailer brake controller will give Jeep Gladiator owners the ability to activate the electronic brakes on properly equipped trailers. Independent from the truck’s brakes, the additional trailer brake control allows for greater stopping power when needed, such as on downhill grades, while helping to minimize wear and tear on both the trailer and vehicle. The amount of brake force on the trailer may be customized depending on load requirements.

“At Mopar, we continue to expand our comprehensive Jeep portfolio, which includes more than 500 factory-backed, quality-tested parts and accessories,” said Mark Bosanac, Head of Mopar Service, Parts and Customer Care, FCA – North America. “Our new trailer brake controller improves Jeep Gladiator’s braking efficiency and maximizes safety when towing.”

The new trailer brake controller is easily integrated into the Jeep Gladiator’s instrument panel. Installed in front of the transmission shift lever, the round controller knob provides a consistent look and feel with the vehicle’s interior. The new controller may also be retrofitted into Jeep Gladiators that are already on the road.

Available for purchase as a stand-alone part in the U.S. and Canada, the new Mopar trailer brake controller has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $299. The standard Mopar factory-backed warranty coverage includes two years/unlimited miles from date of purchase or up to the remainder of the new-vehicle’s warranty of three years/36,000 miles.

Did you read JPMOPARMAN's post first? He stated clearly these are on restriction until the 16th (I'd say at least) - that means you won't be able to order from MOPAR directly. Other sellers of MOPAR parts will take your order and then when THEY can get the part, will fill the orders they received first come, first served.

Wait until the 16th or 17th if you still want one, otherwise I'd suggest go Curt or Redarc and save over 100 bucks and still have a great trailer brake controller.

You'd require a software update i'd bet.......... I found no place for anything about brake controllers in any of the stuff I snooped around in.
We can speculate, but funny thing is that nothing in the marketing materials suggest integration.
I'd LOVE it if it did - don't get me wrong there, I'd love to see that, but until I see it - it's vaporware, guessing.
If it was going to be like the Ram - why did it take so long? Port the existing Ram controller.......

I didn't go Teknosha as I hate those boxes and big controllers screwed to the dash somewhere. I want just the interface, not the whole thing, where I can see it. I had the Teknosha on two of my trucks in recent history, good controllers (but the one in the Chevy actually acted like it rusted inside and got really hard to move the lever).
AlfaOBD can enable the software side, at least on the 2021 but it should be the same for 2020. Like anything else they design for 'dealer install'... I actually already have the trailer screens enabled. Of course the screens I want (Trailer TPMS from the RAM HD) are not playing along, I am still working on that but they live in the same Trailer settings screen as the brake controller so there is hope but I don't want to order the hardware until I know I can enable the software.

I can't see that they would reinvent the wheel for the Gladiator since all they have to do is repackage the control module/switch from the RAM trucks to fit in that spot. New hardware, same software. The problem is the hardware. I would be willing to bet it is being built in Asia and the supply chain from Asia for component development, production and shipping has been extremely slow since January. My guess is they finally got the first container of like 10k units in port that they expected 6 months ago and now can start to populate the supply chain with the part. Just look at other parts, the issue is widespread. I have two other mopar parts on back-order right now with month+ delays (rear grab handles, rain cover).

As far as the Teknosha, I have had it for a long time and just moved it over to this truck because I need it for towing now. Like you I don't like the box hanging off the dash but I was waiting on this unicorn to be released to see which direction I want to go to get rid of the Teknosha. I have not been overly keen on drilling a hole in my dash for the Redarc but that is #2 on my list if this does not pan out.

Just called my local dealer. I know the service manager there. He checked and confirmed that it is expected to be released on October 16, 2020. He put an order in for me and will let me know what happens. I'll post an update when I hear something

Thanks for setting me straight. Still frustrated with the way they are selling this. It’s a crappy way to do business. “Hey! We have this cool part, here’s where you order it, NOPE! Just kidding, try again later”.
Definitely going with Redarc. I don’t care how cool the factory controller is.

Just a suggestion, make sure you are using USB 3.1 rated Type-C cable, or even a Thunderbolt 3 rated cablle. I got a short 6" cable for a desktop dock and swapped it to the truck, works perfectly for fast charging in both places.

The USB-C ports in the JT are garbage. The type C is really just for show and can't even do 18watt PD. I use the A port in the console since it seems to output slightly more power. My phone can take more charge wireless-ly than than the JT can even put out via those ports.

So I got an email notice that my order is in process. I’m guessing it will be processing until the 16th.

Hopefully this weekend will be my last weekend using the curt controller towing out TT.
