I wanted to throw this out there for the folks under 5k miles. Seems consistent with our habits on two of these eco diesels… somewhere between 2k-3500 miles they consume about 2 quarts of oil.
I am pretty religious with a weekly check of our vehicles and the first eco diesel started consumption at the 2k mark and was done by 3k. (Freak chance we were on a road trip- glad we noticed, but made staying on top of it Easy).
Second vehicle is a wrangler- same everything else. Started at 2500 miles and spanned to 3500.

Both consumed about 1.75 quarts each.

Gladiator is at 6200 wrangler is at 7600 and has not burned a bit since.

We changed the oil in both at the 1k mark and at the 5k mark. Probably a waste of oil- but it’s my thing…
Talking with the service guys in our area, they regularly see ecodiesels come in with oil not on the stick for their first change. Apparently not many people pull the dip stick on a new vehicle? ??‍♂

Reminder to check your oil during break in- and maybe grab a quart or two when you pick it up to keep under the seat.

Mine didn’t use any. At 20k mikes, still doesn’t.

Still a good reminder that one should check!
I check every other fuel fill up.

Mine hasn't used any either. at 13k and have changed regularly at 3500 miles.

Maybe you need to run yours harder, put some load on it and flog it up hills and down shift for what little engine break there is?

This would be the first diesel platform we have owned that doesn’t break in…. ??‍♂ We have had a few new tdi’s (1.9,2.0’s and one 3.0), 2.7 Jeep, 6.0 power stroke- all had consumption within the first 10k miles.

Like I said earlier on. It happened early and quick. Haven’t had any consumption since with both jeeps.
??‍♂

More just wanted to put a bit of awareness, so folks will check their oil ever 1k miles or so.

Retarded...err... I mean Retired
I had heard about this and checked mine around 2000 miles. It had lost about 1/2 quart.
Got the oil changed at 5500, so will keep an eye on it, but doubt it'll drop. Those first miles were me breaking it in for trailer duty.

Gas or diesel, everything I've ever bought once it gets into my property, I check fluids, especially oil as it's something that's more likely to be "consumed" early on so I want a base to go by - perfectly full first day, right on the full mark, and then keep track.

As for your other sentence - yeah, you got it. "It's new, it should be fine"...... we know better.
And not all who buy these are into checking or anything maintenance at all. My wife has commented several times in the last few weeks about the young people driving big trucks they can barely get in and out of, likely have a booster in the seat, and dressed like shopping at Macey's - wonder if they know about maintenance?
Vehicles today get driven by those who have trouble pumping gas.

And I could tell about the IHP trooper who aided a motorist along the road - hood up, waiting for help. Stalled engine.
Long story short - trooper saw 35,000 miles on the odo and asked when the last time was he had it serviced. The response? "this is a leased vehicle, I don't have to do that".
OR the guy who was driving his truck and hit a rock in the road, sliced the oil pan. He drove it until it stopped and we towed him in. Imagine his shock when he told us his insurance would pay....
And his insurance company said yeah, we'll buy the oil pan and labor to replace it but you are the one that kept driving when the red light came on.

Buying an expensive vehicle doesn't mean they know anything about driving or caring for it.

Mine used a little over a quart the first 1000k miles. I was aware of it from others and watched it. changed my first oil and fuel filter at about 2K. Hasn't burned really any oil after the first 5k miles (currently at 33k).

Off topic. Had 2 friends hydro locked their 5.7 Hemi motors in their Power Wagons last year at Rausch Creek. Mike did his on Friday, and Ace did his on Saturday. Same water hole. LOL. Their insurance covered the repair. Mike got a completely new motor and Ace got a new long block.

'22 diesel, 12k miles. It did use some up through around 6k or so. Not a lot, I would check weekly and top it off, maybe a splash, usually <1/4 of a quart. I broke it in with a 300 mile highway run, with variable speeds and being it easy on it, ie. no lugging, no jackrabbit starts, just easy on it and driving normal. First oil change at 5k via Wave, since then, one little splash just to get it perfect on the dipstick. It seems to have stopped now.

That’s normal? Seems like a lot of oil consumption, that just natural for the diesel to do?

The answer to this was posted above. It’s natural for most diesels to have a break in period with oil consumption.

You don’t have to worry about this with your 3.6.

Make sure to keep an eye on your rocker/cam, no misfire issues, may want to throw a catch can on there too- Pcv systems sucks a lot of juice….

Maybe, based on your fuel economy, your motor operates off unicorn dust and and will experience zero issues. Based on your reported miles (2600) it may take you a few decades before you hit enough miles to be concerned.
