Ah yes, the late 80’s wood panelled Dodge Caravan. We had one and it constantly broke down. Dad never bought another Chrysler product again.
My wife's family had one too, I believe it was disposed of by self-immolation on the 405.

HAH! Ours nearly self-immolated a few times too. We would drive in the summer heat with the A/C off as to not overheat that measily 96HP 4-binger. And when that didnt work, we would pull over and let it cool off before continuing the road trip.

Ha. my Dad always used to buy Chryslers. When the 80’s came along all they had were the tiny K cars. My Dad bought one which was pretty funny. I was so used to seeing him in a large Chrysler Cordoba and then he shows up in this puny/plain jane K car. He was a big dude. I know he didn’t really like it either as he sold it to his secretary after like only 4 months when the Lebaron GTS came out which was a little bigger and more flashy. That was actually a really nice car and eventually became mine. Ran that 2.2L turbo to 194k miles before the turbo seized.

These fools somehow thought it was okay to charge $100,000 for a Wrangler just because they finally put a V8 in it. And $60k for a Rubicon/Mojave. I hope heads roll.
Looks like they have started.

Stellantis has bought in to about 20% of those companies and Carlos Taveres has publicly stated EU and U.S. EV sanctions on China are bad for his game plan. The Stellantis manufacturing plants in Mexico have Chinese corporate backers. The Chinese EV industry is taking off big time right now so if Carlos can create an unstable market here he can legally shitcan U.S. production and move it to Mexico. Then broker a sweetheart setup to buy into the Chinese EV industry and sell it as CDJR products.

The shake up is likely just getting rid of the dissenters. Carlos is pocketing millions during a huge downturn and yet the company is still backing him. Does that sound like they want to get rid of him?

More like he gets to be the bad guy public face while Stellantis shifts their assets out from under the scrutiny of U.S. and EU corporate laws. Then at some point CDJR makes a very public overture of “cleaning house” while Carlos ***** off to his next adventure laughing at his massive fortune.

I've had both, a Reliant K and a Caravan.
Both were great vehicles during the time I owned them. Pretty much drove the same except for the kids screaming in the back 😄
What were you smoking during the 1980s to find the K car to be great😀.

I had a 1982 Dodge 400 convertible as my first car when I turned 16. It’s a miracle I’m alive. About 10 horsepower, horrible brakes, engine really loved to stall out middle of an intersection for some reason. Horrendous handling too. Worst car I ever had by a long long distance.

The K-car had low miles, got it from a wholesaler for cheap.
It was economical, ran great and it didn't upset my insurance company like my Camaro did. 😉
Filled the need at the time

Stellantis does not see themselves as an American car company or brand. They just happen to do some manufacturing here in the USA.

Tavares has told the Italian legislature that it is too expensive to manufacture in Italy due to energy cost there and threatens to move production out and has told the Governor of Michigan they want subsidies to keep their headquarters there.

I do not see it as too far fetched down the road like in 5-10 years that almost all manufacturing currently in the USA will be sent to Mexico and elsewhere with it even including Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator (if still available).

The fact that Tavares is allowed to stay through his contract until 2026, tells me his vision good or bad is condoned at the board level.

IMHO, American consumers have to stop thinking of CDJR as still being part of the "Big Three" domestic brands of the past and start treating it like any of the other foreign brands that do business here also.

People Work?
I guess my answer to Carlos comes in the form of a question: Who's stopping you, Carlos? Run your company however you want. Why would government mandates stand in your way. Go ahead and burn it all down.

The guy seriously has stated that Stellantis is in good shape to meet the EV mandates in the EU. I have serious doubts about that .

That's why they've partnered with the Chinese who went straight for EV production.

I understand that but the EU has CO2 mandates hitting next year 2025. Dealers over there are freakin and asking the EU to move the targets back due to lack of affordable BEV’s to sell.
While partnering with Leapmotor will help that, I don’t see them getting a significant amount of models into the market for next year.
