Did I forget to mention that I'm on my second one?!

Truth is I wouldn't buy one in a 3.6l. They are much too under powered for my large hilly/low mountain area.

I wanted the diesel engine but they had the stop sell on them and I couldn't find a single one anywhere when I purchased mine but now with all the incentives going on I am definitely looking at trading mine in on one. I have been a little hesitant with all the negativity around the 3.0L but after reading this thread it seems like most owners love them and the negative feedback comes from people that don't even have the diesel.

I've had the High Altitude Diesel since September (got it right after the stop sale was lifted at 18.25% below sticker price) and I REALLY enjoy it. I just hope I have many accident free years of driving it because I won't be able to find a new replacement.

I had originally ordered a JTD in March, but was worried that it would never be built. I had actually given up and bought a Silverado 1500 with the 3.0L Duramax diesel. When the JTD became available, I bought it for my wife, but I end up driving it when I can pry the keys out of her hands.

I really wanted an EcoDiesel. I test drove one before buying my 2023 Gladiator five weeks ago: it drove nice; tons of torque, but I didn't like that it stunk like hell.

Things were fine as long as we were moving, but as soon as I came to a stop or was idling on the lot, a strong stench of diesel took over. I was surprised to be honest.

Then I read all of issues the EcoDiesel has had; some of which are still unresolved.

I ended getting a gasoline Gladiator instead. The Pentastar engine is proven; runs quietly and smoothly. No regrets.
Had a Liberty diesel for a minute. The pumps were always dirty(needed to wear rubber gloves) and not all the pumps dispensed diesel(gassers would use the diesel/gas pumps). These got annoying after a while.

The price is irresistible, NEW 2023 Gladiator/Rubi Diesel. $18,000 off MSRP

I have a gas Gladiator and love it, so much fun, I will never be without a jeep again but the Diesel. I want it bad Im not worried about DEF, but has Jeep massaged out the 3.0 issues for 2023?
Don't waste any time get the diesel!!! We have 4 total 3 Jt's and 1 Jlurd zero issues 125k miles in! I have owned 30 plus Jeep's and used them for everything from ranch work, to off road to daily driver literally 100's of thousands of miles. I've had 2 392's hands down in my opinion the best Jeep combination ever built is the diesel! I bought a spare because I heard they were going to discontinue. You will love it !!! Nothing compares in my opinion plus you'll get awesome fuel mileage as a bonus

I wouldn't have a diesel if it was free. Ridiculous extra cost, ridicu;ous fuel costs, ridiculous troublesome Euro engine, and virtually ALWAYS "meh" fuel mileage increase. You'd have to drive it 1,000,000 miles to break even. If it delivers more torque, good, there's one benefit. Having worked on automotive diesels and owned several diesel pickups I came to the conclusion diesels are for long haul trucks, locomotives and container ships. (JMHO, of course. ? )

Interesting the diesel you drove must have been loading up. We have 4 I start mine in my shop closed doors to let it warm up and no smell at all? If I do the same with 1 of my cummins trucks I have to open door right away. Bummer you had that experience we never had there actually really ckean burning. Enjoy your new Jeep

I considered a diesel, but a few things stopped me:

I wanted the diesel option to either be quicker (for the 95% of the time) or have more Tow/payload capacity than the gasser for my use of towing (less than 5% of the time). The diesel offers no real benefit in either of those areas.

The ‘23 gasser is faster than the diesel to both 60mph and to the quarter mile. Sure, you’ve got to go fuuuuulll throttle to get there, but it is faster.

Then, you lose payload and towing in the diesel vs the gasser. So sure, mileage may be worse in the gasser when loaded, but if I can tow a couple more pounds of widgets or haul a few more pounds in the bed at the expense of MPGs, I’m a-ok with that because my daily gas spend is less When I’m not towing or hauling.

Finally, it’s a truck thats shaped like a box. I test drove both, and the diesel butt dyno felt faster, but then the gasser felt quick too when I test drove it afterwards. So the extra price didn’t seem beneficial to me.

Finally- torque. The 4:1 transfer case in the Rubicon provides enough torqueanywhere With the gasser if I’m off road.

Now, if I regularly towed my horse in a 1500lb trailer, I’d absolutely have gone for the diesel because I don’t think there is any question that regular towing makes the diesel a clear champion. But that isn’t my use case, so just getting the diesel for the sake of having a diesel doesn’t do me any good.

I'm sure this is area specific. I rarely come across the issue of dirty hand pumps but the annoying wait for gas people using the only available diesel pump is real ?

The diesel has awesome power and is very fast. I am constantly telling my friends about how powerful the diesel engine is in these. Just yesterday I told a friend of mine that I "marvel at the power that this jeep has". I dug the message up that I sent one of my best friends yesterday. If I sent one of my very best friends this message you can fairly well believe it. I paid $70K for mine plus about $5K for tax, tag, registration, etc. I custom ordered it with almost every option other than dual tops. If you can get it at a discount it is a no brainer.

I bought a 23 JTRD in Jan 24. I put 600+ miles on it. I use a lubricant in the fuel. Very satisfied with this purchase! The price was the same discount you are looking at. The truck is solid but nimble. Put a smart cap on it. The last of the Sarge Green Rubicons (sorry to say).

I have two jeep diesels one a rubicon and one a willys. I also own a one ton duramax diesel.
The 2021 willy's is stock and here in Az. The 2022 rubicon is in wyoming. Both are used for ranching, small horse or stock trailer. I run a BANKS DERRINGER, I BANKS DATA and a Pedal MONSTER on the rubicon. There is no gas jeep equal to this set up. Daily .... derringer is set on 2 and the pedal monster on city. Plus if you are a prepper you better have one diesel vehicle somewhere. Diesel is the way to go

No truer words have ever been spoken. It's almost nauseating how many people will tell you not to buy one but have zero firsthand experience. It's even worse if you join any of the Facebook groups. Their "experience" is basically limited to comments they read about the Gen 2 motor from 10 years ago on some internet forum.
