it’s a little confusing why they have 3 different GVWR ratings in 3 different places
It's a Jeep thing.
Last Jeep you'll ever own? ?

Here is a photo of the window sticker, if that helps explain the difference in payload.

Positively in some cases... since the diesel gets the wider axles, it gets the 6,500lb GVWR too so an overland or Sport with the diesel actually have a higher payload than they normally do. Gimps the Rubicon even harder though.

That's like 140lbs lower than the spec assuming a gas truck... I'm guessing you have a ton of factory options and/or maybe a few dealer installed Mopar add-ons?
Wider axels isn’t gonna improve the payload of the diesel since it weighs 400 more than the gas, how does that affect the payload positively?

Diesel Sport/Overland has a GVWR of 6,500 lbs. whereas the gas Sport/Overland only has a GVWR of 6,000 lbs. The difference in weight from the engine and axles is less than the increased GVWR so the payload is actually larger.

Wider axles are the commonality of all the 6,500 lb trucks though springs are going to be different too.

Interesting, I thought the diesel could actually tow less because of the size of the engine and inefficiency in cooling

Also true. Payload is the available capacity of the chassis, towing is a separate metric with separate testing.

There's also the combined weight of the two in GCWR and anything you tow counts against your payload via tonge weight. It's all a balancing game and why I don't really think this is a great towing platform... by the time I have my truck trail ready I don't have any room left for tongue.

Well the one I ordered has the same options you have, the only difference is the color and I ordered the diesel. My dealer assured me it would have 1200+ payload when I ordered so seeing this along with your 900+ payload sticker don’t give me that warm and fuzzy feeling. I sure as hell hope I’m not waiting 3 months for a truck I won’t take.

Anyone know if when your order shows up on the cryptostickers site if I can find out what they payload will be?

I hope your diesel ends up being reliable

Yea, they only have 4 or 5 different numbers on their website and I've seen about 10 different figures of people posting their door stickers on here. It' seems to be a crap shoot at best :surprised:

Basically from experience, never ever trust a dealer to tell you what you will get in payload as they have no idea what all the options etc do to the payload. Most of them dont even understand payload or towing. They just want to sell a vehicle. Same goes for RV dealers.

I went to the lots and looked at every door sticker I could on Gladiators before I ordered and compared that with the window sticker showing options. Then I went online and searched for every door sticker I could. This all to get an idea of payload impact from options and engine. Then go out and ask everyone who has that trim (BEFORE you order) what their payloads are and the options they got.

I got a Sport S Max Tow in the end even though I was initially thinking Rubicon. I was interested in payload and towing plus all the optional features such as safety etc. And I knew all the options I wanted would impact payload..

Even with buying every single option package there was, plus the hardtop and spray in bedliner I was still able to get 1350 payload (on my sticker) along with the 7650 tow and 765 tongue. We have 300 pounds of people which takes me down to 1050 for payload. If I use up 700 in tongue weight I still have 350 for additional stuff in the Gladiator such as tools, etc.

I agree with you 100% I had the conversation with the sales rep and store manager prior to ordering anything. I built the truck at the dealership and showed them what the Jeep website showed the payload capacity would be and told them if it's not ATLEAST that number we needed to look at a different truck. The store manager went and made a phone call and came back and told me it would be at least the 1275 the website showed. He said if it isn't they would give me my deposit back. That's all good but if it goes down that way I just wasted 12-15 weeks (what they told me the order process is taking) and still won't have a truck

Not deceiving, just wildly variable. Every truck will have a slightly different curb weight based on its options so it's impossible to provide a payload without knowing the exact build.

IMO they should have a reference to this on the window sticker and a dealer should be able to tell you what your payload will be. They don't weigh each truck to stamp them, it's all calculated off the build sheet so Jeep knows what it will be even before you order.
