I have 285/75r18 duratracs on my Overland. Perhaps it has made a slight difference? I do live in the flat state of Florida so I’m not towing up and down mountains.

on a side note, thinking about 37s but worried about it being too much on the axles. Would this be a way of making running the 37s on an Overland a non issue? It’s just for the front axle, would anything be needed for the rear axle?

What are you planning to do with your 37s?

35's ( 285/75/18 ) made mine considerably sluggish. Down in 5th gear on a lot of small hills on Interstate to maintain 70mph. Put in 488's and problems solved. Rarely out of 8th gear now. Mileage dropped from 20 ( stock) to 17 now.

What's your RPM at 70 in 8th now?

I’m specifically looking for any overlanders....
I'm running Falken 35's (285/75/R18) at 36 PSI on the stock 18 inch rims with a 2 inch Iron Rock lift with DT8000 shocks. You can see the thread here: https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/forum/threads/iron-rock-2-inch-lift-kit-installed.28591/

No sluggishness and getting between 19 and 21 mpg on the highway - 20 to 21 at 70mph with mpg decreasing above that speed. Consistently got 22 -23 mpg when JT was stock. I'm predominately on flat ground and not under load most of the time.

When pulling a 5x10 utility trailer with 800lb load, only the higher gears drive the RPMs up before shift.
When pulling a 3500lb camper, there is some sluggishness and higher RPM before shift... that's to be expected though.

EDIT: Used a Tazer JL to adjust tire size and pressure settings for new configuration.

37s with stock Overland gearing? Pooch. Even on flat ground. At least that's my gut on it. It's got to work a lot harder getting those big heavy tires turning.

If I go 37s I’m going all in and among other mods will be regearing to 4.88.

Same. I'll open the axels and do 4.88 and lockers and maybe axle shaft, at least front. Then downstream 37. But not 37 and then those mods.

I am about to pull trigger today on 18" wheels with 35x12.50s. Will I regret this with my Overland with the 3.73 gearing?

There's no issue in town at all. The issues come up on the highway and hills. Depends what you do for driving.

If you're buying rims any reason you're not doing 17s?

i agree with JOY if your buying rims i would highly suggest 17's as there is so much more options for tires in that range

I have 35's on 17's on the stock 3.73s no issues at all, highway mileage over 70 mph drops pretty quick at 80mph I get about 16- but that is driving a brick at 80 so I'm not sure about the comparison.

If you check what gear you are in I bet you are one to two lower than you normally would be. I'll get into 7 and occasionally 8 but there's a lot of 6th as the top gear it'll pick on its own

I got 35s on my overland. A bit more sluggish, but its fine for city and hwy driving. MPGs took a hit, averaging 16-17. 8th gear is not used as much as other mentioned.
It handles just fine.
