in other words, you would need to remove the actuator cover while on the engine, install a video camera, and record the electronic actuator operation while towing your travel trailer. ;)
The other option is to hook it up to my oscilloscope and put it in the oven to observe its behavior while actuating it. Thats a layer of deep I am not ready for

I don't have the time or the money to do that unfortunately with this being my only mode of transportation. It wasn't the dealer they tried to push it through it was Mopar that kept shutting them down so I don't have a lot of hope going up against them.I go to Gupton motors in Tennessee which is pretty reputable and they did try there best even putting in multiple request for a good faith fix. They kept getting shut down. It is not like it matters to Mopar or the people @JeepCares but they definitely lost a customer.

Hi Blair, the dealer wasn't an issue. Both them and myself tried working with you guys to get it covered and it did not happen. Response from you guys we're almost non existent both myself and the dealer were making calls and it would take weeks to get answers and I was specifically told you could not help and that the turbo was not covered under the power train warranty and that it now falls under the federal emissions warranty which was supposed to be 80k but then I was told it changed to 70k. I'm now past 80k so I definitely wouldn't count on the help from jeepcares. Sorry just have no confidence in the customer service of jeep.

This makes me angry. Mfr can't just reduce or changing what items are covered under warranty years later after purchased. Goes by the owners manual as that's what you signed and agreed to when made the purchase.

I have been researching the turbo and actuator details and here are the part numbers I have found so far.

StatusFCA Part NumberGarrett Part NumberGarret ModelActuator Part #Actuator Version / Calibration?
Current68602174AA855634-0004GTD2060ZVLK6NW010099-24797862-0072
Obsolete68486941AA855634-0003 or 2GTD2060ZVLK6NW010099-24797862-0050

I have not identified a source for the revisions or why they were made. I am sure this exists through internal ECR (engineering change request) processes, but it certainly isn't public. So far, I have found the 797862-0072 actuator works on the 68486941AA turbo both in daily drivability and through data logging. I have not been able to determine the significance of 0050 vs 0072 in the actuator numbers.

I ordered a remanufactured 797862-0050 actuator to have on hand. Considering there are no visible mechanical issues with my factory 0050 actuator, the issue must be electronic if there is one. I am not familiar with the typical remanufacturing process or whether the electronics are evaluated under heat or simulated load conditions. The actuator was only $170 shipped from Poland, so it's an inexpensive test.

Can you locate a eeprom/firmware chip in the actuator module?
There has to be something they are writing firmware to? If you can find that, you might be able to use a XGecu T48 to pull the firmware from the new actuator and write it to the old one.

Following this thread very closely. I’ve been chasing this gremlin since 2021. Would like to know your source for the actuator…

I ran a load test yesterday and was able to create the same thermal conditions >1400F EGT temps and extended full boost loaded condition that would previously result in the P00AF code but in this case, the system functioned as it should.

I am not 100% convinced the issue is resolved but I feel good about the results. I am not going to replace my turbo for now and I'll know for sure whether or not the actuator fixed the issue in the next couple of weeks after my drive to Daytona Beach.

I plan to run the 0072 actuator and have the 0050 on-hand for my trip, as long as it arrives on time.

I'll continue to provide updates as I learn more.

Thanks Man! Where did you get the 0072 actuator?

I bought a replacement turbo assuming to do the full swap and the 0072 was installed on it. I haven't found a source for the 0072 yet but I am contacting rebuilders to see if they offer the 0072 and see if I can learn what the difference between 0072 and 0050 are.

According to the actuator rebuilder I purchased my 0050 from, the 0050 and 0072 are interchangeable. As with everything I've shared, take this information as "trust but verify".

Hopefully, I will receive my 0050 actuator before I depart for Daytona Beach on Sunday the 20th to take it along as a backup part.

Thanks for all the work you are doing on this, man. How hard is it to replace just the actuator on the Turbo?

It's my pleasure. I am often incentivized when someone (or the dealer) says something isn't possible without explanation, especially when all mechanical and technical indications indicate it is possible.

The actuator swap is a 15-minute job. I have removed my engine cover and engine insulation, which might make it easier. But in any case, it is a small task.

I received my remanufactured actuator, and it looks like new. I will continue running the 0072 until I experience a reason not to. If I were motivated, I would disassemble the 0072 to see the part numbers.

I just got my actuator from the vendor you used. 4 days from Poland. Faster than I get stuff from Missouri and I live in Kansas…
