How can you tell if it's leaking vs just dirty/wet from the road?

Compare to the right side. My driver side doesn't look greasy at all, left side different story.

Actually it is the right side (passenger side) When talking about right or left it's as if you're sitting in the drivers seat.

You aren't wrong. Working 6 days for the last 3 months has my brain twisted

Just checked, no obvious signs of leakage, but the inside of the backing plate does feel a little grimier than the driver's side. Put me in as a definite "maybe". ~10K miles, not sure of build date, bought a little under a year ago

Mine wasn't wet like running down the backing plate, just an oily film where the backing plate bolts to the housing. Scheduled an appointment with my dealer and they now have a new axle assembly on order for mine. Backordered like everything else in the world. About 7000 miles is when I first looked and saw it. Some folks leaves puddles inside their rims!!

What say you guys about this spot? I believe I fall into the build dates range. Did anyone with this issue experience it causing a knocking noise?

Look at the backside of the "drum backing plate" for lack of a better term, you got the leak.

I have the 2021 Rubicon, made in October 2020. I checked both sides of rear axel with a very bright light and I don't see anything wet or oily. maybe we can nail down a timeframe of manufacturing that people are having the issue

6-21 build, no leak so far at 3100 miles (knocking on wood).

Mines leaking. Noticed after the first oil change at dealership that front right had a spot of oil. Looked at RR nothing.... waited a day...BAM oil drips
Ordered on 3/24 picked up on 4/30

Sounds like most of you guys are getting new axlss. I just took mine in and they are swapping the seal and an axle bearing.
If they don't have the parts in stock it will be a 3-4 week wait! And they do not recommend driving it as-is. They did offer to give me a loaner if they have to order parts.

I was told on yesterday that they are replacing the axle on mine. They couldnt give me a ETA what so ever, I was told there are 259 on order and that there is only 6 in the USA. I got a long term loaner until it gets fixed

Wow! I wonder why they can fix mine but everyone else in this thread has required a new axle?

That i dont know, I was told my "truck would be sitting at the dealership for a long time" to quote the service manager

Mine was ordered in January 21, built during February and delivered at the end of March. I wonder if there is a stamp on the axle housing from Dana for dates. This would be a better metric. I have the wide axles with 4.10's.

We discussed this a few pages ago(edit: it is in the thread about leaking seals not this thread, sorry). Yes there is but seemed it was within a week of the MDH# so no need to change how to track this until we establish firm start and end dates.
