Whoever builds those, Dana/Spicer I'm guessing, has been having issues for a while it seems. Tons of axle and driveshaft issues with Ford Rangers as well, of which I am an owner. Also the rusting frame issue on gen3 Tacomas. They can't catch a break. I also work in manufacturing and skilled labor has become pretty difficult to find. We are starting to develop robots to replace people. If my Gladiator has an axle seal issue, at least it's just a seal.

Called service today to schedule an appointment. Right off the bat said that there would be no loaner, rental, or any kind of shuttle. Before I even asked.

I responded by asking, "If the repairs take several days, I'm expected to pay out of pocket for a rental?"

He said that we will discuss it when we get to that point.

So, we will see.

Like I said, back to back issues with Jeep products and these kinds of responses. I was out thousands of dollars out of my first Jeep. I planned on keeping it. So, we will see how these repairs turn out. Jeep can't expect people to go on without a car for these many issues. At least in experience between two different Jeeps. This is without getting into the nightmare with my first one and the support I got from two different dealerships and FCA at the time.

My poor experiences with Jeep are almost 20 years apart, but definitely have me wondering why I went back to them.

I had a 2000 XJ Cherokee Sport with the inline 4.0. Drove it new off the lot with 7 original miles. I had numerous serious body corrosion issues with the vehicle over the course of the time I owned it. Even though it all obviously started before it was out of warranty, Jeep wouldn’t cover it at 37,000 miles. Additionally the condenser and heater core broke and I traded in a three year old car at a significant loss.

January of 2021 I start looking for a new vehicle. My car salesman Army buddy shows me the Gladiator and I’m hooked. The Cherokee was 20 years ago, they have to be better now, right? Nope…At three months and 9000 miles I get the first ā€œservice shifterā€ dashboard pinball machine error. Jeep Wave towing is absolutely abysmal and my dealer spends two days to figure out ā€œnothingā€ is wrong, clears some codes, and return my Jeep.

Last week Friday I’m an hour from home with 17000 miles on my Sport S and the ā€œservice shifterā€ pinball machine goes again. This time, because of my last experience, I knew it would take Jeep at least eight hours to tow my Jeep the 30 miles, so I limped it to a different dealer along the way home. Seven days later they still have no idea what’s wrong. They can’t clear the over 80 errors and are waiting on a STAR case to assist, even though this seems to be a not so uncommon issue. We’ll see if the Jeep ā€œDon’tā€ Cares ticket I started does any good. Neither this dealer or my own will offer a loaner and I fear that I’m on track for the average five week resolution to this issue. As much as I love this truck, it’ll be pretty tough to sell me on ever going back to Jeep after I trade this one off.

With FEW minor exceptions, I've had GREAT luck with Jeeps. My wife agrees and won't buy anything but Jeep for herself (Grand Cherokees for over 25 years now, lost track of how many)
Yes I had the steering issue - not as bad as some, I consider it fairly minor especially since they fixed it promptly (Twice LOL).
Engine is FINE. HVAC seems to have issues after an update but oddly - it worked fine today. Weird.
No drivetrain issues at all so far. No brake issues. No engine issues other than the misfire on my wife's 2021 WK2 -that was resolved with new spark plugs under warranty.

We've had several Grand Cherokees that never had a single issue at all, not even minor.

It's actually kind of a shame. Whenever people ask me if they should buy a Jeep. I usually say no with the exception that they are the funnest cars I've owned. Unfortunately, most people will only have one car and I can't with a clear conscience recommend a Jeep.

I've had over 20+ cars and motorcycles.

If I would have had to pay out of pocket for all of the fixes these two Jeeps needed. The total would amount to more than what I've spent on maintenance on all of my cars put together. Ive owned Japanese, German, and US made cars. Which sounds crazy to me.

Maybe it's coincidence or maybe I'm just that lucky.

Had some sort of issue with every vehicle I have owned. Current count is about 30-35. Never had a perfect vehicle. Sure some were better than others, but the newer vehicles seem to have more electrical issues or gremlins. Jeep nor any manufacturer that I am aware of makes all their own parts. Just look at the Takata (spelling?) airbag issues that affected countless manufacturers.
So, having issues with the JK, and one known issue with the JT, doesn’t make it unusual.
Luckily it happened under warranty.

Looking back again at my past vehicles - I never had my 2011 Silverado back to the dealer for any issue, any problem, any warranty work. Not a single thing. When I sold it to a local dealer, it was taken in in perfect working order. Everything about the truck simply worked. No squeaks, no leaks, electrical was all fine, engine ran like a dream, transmission was smooth, brakes were great. I can say that it literally had nothing that needed to be done other than put new tires on it and those aged out before they wore out.
We had some Jeeps that way as well - never had any issues - no squeaks, no leaks, no issues at all, not a single thing. And my wife is picky - she can hear things that few others can hear, almost like a cat can hear a mouse in a wall in another room, she could hear if there was any sound that didn't belong. If there's an issue, she'll see it or hear it or ask "what's that under there"?
So far, no electrical issues on any vehicle we've owned that I can recall......... oh, HVAC blower relay on a Liberty, but that was a simple fix.

How about your Suzuki or AMC?

How about your Suzuki or AMC?
I should have said those we've bought new.
Even at that, electrical issues have been few for me over the 50 years I've owned cars and have been driving. Electric is my specialty anyway.

Never owned, a Suzuki (bike or otherwise)
I expect a 40 year old car with over 100,000 miles (193,000 for my SX4) to have some gremlins. Easily resolved - replace fuse panel (windshield leak caused that). I bought the car to fix up anyway. It had sat in a grassy lot in northern California for 10 years with critters getting in, water getting in via windshield leaks, and it had over 150,000 miles at the time.
I don't consider upgrades, such as making a new, heavier harness for headlights and adding relays, to be a problem. I decided to upgrade.
When I swapped in the 4.0, I made new wiring to merge the Jeep systems with the AMC systems and make cruise and other things work through the PCM and PDC.

I came up with a circuit to convert the AMC cruise switch to work with the Jeep ZJ cruise in the PCM - not a problem, I just wanted cruise in my car.

My current Javelin was abused by the prior owner. He salvaged it from the dirt and totally screwed up many things. Oddly, most things electric actually worked but I didn't care for the wires twisted together under the dash and wrapped with masking tape.
My 70 never had electrical issues.

We’ve had awful luck with Subaru. We had a 2010 Forester that was in the shop every other month and for things a sub 100k mile car shouldn’t have had like a bad power steering pump and catalytic converter. We traded it around 120k when it was showing signs of a bad head gasket. Apparently all subarus of that vintage end up having head gasket issues.

We traded for a new 2017 Outback. Once in a while it would refuse to start. Then there were battery drain issues if you didn’t drive it every day. The drivers window would go up and down by itself. Finally, the key would get stuck in the ignition. Apparently that was another lovely Subaru feature that they knew about for several years but didn’t bother to fix. Car Max gave us a silly amount of money for the Outback this summer and we bought a used Toyota Venza AWD and had money left over. It’s older and has more miles, but at least it starts and I can get the key out of the ignition.

My gladiator has 14k miles and has had its quirks: a noisy ball joint, a few rattles and squeaks, recently a wobble or shimmy, a gas filler door that opens when the car wash dryer hits it, and the notorious pinging, but it’s still fewer serious issues than the Outback gave us. I’ve had issues with just about everything I’ve owned. When they make their way from the ā€œannoyanceā€ to ā€œproblemā€ category, I usually reexamine whether it’s worth keeping. The Jeep’s definitely not there yet.

If it's a V6. Try using slightly higher octane. As far as any of the other issues. They wouldn't bother me either. Even the crappy steering on my JL I could live with. I forgot to mention that problem with it too. lol

My JL always went out of alignment after a few weeks. I started fixing it myself when it got bad.

I had signed off from Jeep prior to my gladiator from my 2001 grand Cherokee debacle. Even though I haven’t owned it in 16 years I still have nightmares about it. However it was my favorite suv and my most hated ride. Let me see if I can recall all the issues.

-2 failed power steering pump
-completely failed ac system with three total compressors
-every power Window line would break and the window feel into the door
-several failed coils
-radiator
-heater core (worst as dash had to be stripped and ac system evacuated)
-replaced tranny cooler
-replaced transmission at 6k miles
-brake piston recall from weak calipers
-gauge cluster would freeze randomly
- sunroof leaked if parked In the rain
-taillight gremlins with constant bulb shorts.

probably some other stuff. However when it ran it ran great and was super comfy and with its v8 towed really well too.
