Hey folks, I'm scheduled to get the 34B SCCM recall performed on my Gladiator in a couple of days. I've used a Tazer to enable several features, from LED lights to inverter power in the truck bed.

Do I need to reset the programming back to factory before I take my truck in? I'm not sure what's involved with the recall and whether or not it requires them to flash the computer. If they flash it with the Tazer changes in place, will it just overwrite them and put the truck back in factory state? Or will there be some kind of clash where the MOPAR computer won't talk with the truck due to the mismatch in enabled sales codes?

Thanks for any insight.

ZAutomotive recommends that it be unmarried and removed for each dealer visit. At a minimum, it should be disconnected before the visit.

I had my rear window replaced with Tazer installed. I told the dealer about it being there and that if any updates need to be done, it would need to be removed prior to the update.

Not all dealers are the same. If you talk to them ahead of time, you might save yourself some time.

I don't see them needing to do an update for that recall. Then again, they could do an update for something else, not part of the recall. That is why I would tell them about it if you leave it in.

It’s a pain but each time I go to the dealership I unmarry and remove the Tazer per Tazer recommendation. From a customers perspective you don’t know what all will happen to your Jeep when it gets to the service bay. Also, you may advise the service writer of your Tazer equipped Jeep and if that info is passed on is a real gamble. When going to the dealership for any service or repair, about two blocks away, I pull into a parking lot and unmarry/remove the Tazer.

FYI, if your dealer is cool with the Tazer (some even recommend buying one), the newer firmware updates allow you to set the tazer to allow the dealer's programmer tools to pass thru it.

So many people have Tazer that I am guessing that dealers are used to them. I never unmarry mine. I always INTEND TO but pretty much have forgotten each time.

Yes, it is wise to unmarry the tazer per instructions. Other wise the dealer cannot use their tool to look into the OBD port. Many dealers use their tool routinely to see if there are any codes that need to be taken care of. If you are sure no electrical issues are present then you could get by without unmarrying. In fact I went to the dealer to have the FAD repaired and they ask me to marry the tazer.

If the taser is unmarried and removed before the dealership visit and then reinstalled after the visit, I assume you would need to remarry the taser to reinstate the taser setting?

What I did was remove the Tazer without unmarrying and pay Z for the unlock code, that way the changes I have made become the new baseline. Now all I use the Tazer for are live functions and if I need to remove the Tazer to go to the dealer there is no worry about throwing a code.

Agreed with what you’ve said. I used to do that and my Service Advisor was cool with it. But then one day the tech, tried to do an update and “bricked” the computer because the Tazer was still installed. After 2 hours fighting the issue, the SA comes out to sheepishly tell me there was a problem. I said “You remember I told you there is a Tazer installed, right?” Needless to say, I had to go out into the shop, unmarry and remove the Tazer, and now I never take it to the Service guys without it unmarried.

They lost my trust that day…

The obd port is not used by Tazer.

Buyer will only pay for the unlock code if you sell the Tazer.

I use to leave my Tazer in and had no issues. Now, I am searching for a new dealer to take things to and will be talking to them about that.

???? Not sure what you're trying to say. I chose to remove the Tazer without unmarrying it leaving the LED tire size etc. changes then bought the code and updated the Tazer before reinstalling it . This "bakes in" the changes and gives a new start point.
