Just walk around your house pointing at things in your house to get the ‘site picture’ with both eyes open.
Id do this but I think it might freak the kids and animals out just a bit. The wife would just roll her eyes and tell me to put it away. As usual. :CWL:

Absolutely…. You don’t even have to waste ammo. Kinda like dry fire drills but you don’t have to pull the trigger. Just walk around your house pointing at things in your house to get the ‘site picture’ with both eyes open. Then transition from target to target with your eyes and follow with the dot.
This is what do too. Pointing at door knobs, picture frames, recess lights etc. I prefer shooting with both eyes open to have the ghost sights on target.

With both eyes open, the left sight is for the right eye, and right sight for the left eye.

To keep ’on target’ with the topic…..

Place some ducks around the house in various places and aim at those. 😂
I might actually do that. Need a change-up. Tired of aiming at the same things every time. 😂

It’s funny….after running both eyes open for a while now and doing those drills around the house, It feels odd to close one eye now.

It just takes practice and a bunch of rounds to get use to shooting with both eyes open.
I do shoot both eyes open with iron sights. so both eyes isn´t what´s making me stumble with it. My issue is when I pull it up, for some reason my brain makes me hold the pistol I think barrel up slightly, when I am looking for the dot. I think you are right that lots of practice would help. The only problem with that is 40+ years of acquiring iron sights has formed muscle memory that is hard to break. There´s some truth to what they say about old dogs learning new tricks. LOL!

When you are presenting the pistol to the target, try adding a little more pressure to the pinky. This should help bring the dot down for a proper alignment. Most of the time, within 15 yards, when the target is in the window you will hit the target, although it may not be where you want it to be.

Yes and no. I suspect it's relative to how long you've been shooting. And of course, if your fundamentals are solid.

It's been easier for me to change my shooting habits than most because I didn't grow up with firearms.

Then I try and tell my wife to change something... it takes 3 more people to tell her to do it before she finally does. I'm like, yeah, I told you to do that like 3 years ago.

Same for changing from iron sights to RDS. It's practice. Some will get it quicker than others. I've never liked iron sights so it was easier for me to move to RDS. If you've been shooting for a long time and now move to RDS, it's going to take you longer than you think.

I have astigmatism in my left eye, and for a time a slight one in my right. So no matter what happens, everything I look at is always a little blurry. Having to focus on fore- and back- grounds makes it more difficult for my eyes.

I find my G17 is a little harder than my G43X with repetition of acquiring the dot on draw. Probably because I don't shoot the G17 as much as the G43X.

I don't shoot pistol at tables but practice live and dry regularly for carry and years ago DG'd handgun at Front Sight. I am now 61 but with regular dry practice have no problem with iron sights and do not (yet anyway) need to resort to luminous dots. There are negs (ambient light; bulk; reliance on batteries and electronics adversely affected by time and recoil) which eclipse any potential benefit for EDC, in my opinion. Slightly more open to it with open carry. Much more open to luminous dots on AR for home defense, but only with properly elevated iron sights as backup.

I'm fine with ducks so long as they are properly attired in clothing that doesn't clash with the other ducks on my dash and avoid quacking on about luminous dots.

Muscle memory is difficult to acquire unless you’ve been shooting for that long.
You should be able to adapt to a red dot faster than someone else who doesn’t have that muscle memory.

I’m over here trying to build that muscle memory……
