I am going to replace the factory side steps on my High Altitude with rock rails. THe steps are pretty useless and I do not just want the lower body showing.

Anyone done this? Seems pretty straight forward

Pretty easy, just take your time taking out the bolts doing it by hand is easy. If you are looking at factory take off rock rails, check out the optional Mopar performance steps, which are wider versions of the rock rails and still can be used as a step. Finish and quality is top notch, if you do minor trail and rock crawling they will be ok, bashing up the rock piles and high centers they are not as good as some quality aftermarket stuff. They show up on facebook and here at times, I got a set for $275 which was a bargain, they were a $1,000 dolar option in 2021....Jack.

FF, It is relative easy.. BTW,, I bought take offs from a Jeep Accessory/Mod shop for less than 150. You might find spraying the bolts with Blaster before attempting to remove.

I recently replaced my homemade rock sliders with something (hopefully) a little better. I welded schedule 40 piping to the factory rock rails and it seemed to do fine on light trails. I’m headed to Moab in 2 months and didn’t want to risk breaking any welds and pushing my rails up into the body. The rock sliders I got were from Extreme Terrain for about 300 bucks. They mount up the exact same way as the factory rails do. I plan to add some extra protection by welding plates to the bottom that I can bolt to the frame.

new sliders almost the same just more bracing. I believe they are Barricade sliders

I just did the opposite. I installed a set of High Altitude side steps on my Rubi. I picked them up on Marketplace for $100. Yes, the switch over is very straight forward. It is the same mounting hardware for both.

I also added Weathertech front mud flaps which are now a little more universal to various Mopar Rock Rails and Side Steps.

I don't care for step rails but I'm like you, want to cover the seams. I installed a set of Mopar Rubicon rock rails. Looks good and took about 20 minutes by myself. Again, no step but that's what I prefer.

I'm running Ironman Slider steps. They’re like rock sliders but have a plate on the top to use as steps. I use the steps all the time getting in/out and something to ‘step on‘ while I wash the roof.

Frame mounted rock rails for the win. Saved ours a trip to the body shop.
Also just a huge note the flexibility of the extended flares and mudflaps! Paint transfer on tires and the edge of rock rails are all we took when lame sharing took place….
