I saw a video where the guy mounted the switches to the door jam next to the hinge area. Is that correct or do they go near the back of the door where the locking mechanism is?

Front doors get magnets near the latch, with sensors on the b pillar. Back doors also get sensors on the b pillar with magnets on the hinge side.

I used painters tape to position the magnets and test before actually taping them to the truck. I then measured precisely where I had them on one side, and tried that same position first on the next side, with painters tape. Saved me some time and frustration.
Don't be worried by the position of the magnets on the rear door hinge area. It works fine - seems funky, but works.
I installed these on 2 Jeeps and have no complaints. I've only had them "freak out" on my a couple of times, and once the dealership did some work and I had to pull the fuse to rest the because one was hanging down half way........
(they had to pull the body off to change the transmission on the Wrangler, I'm shocked that the steps were in great order when I got the Jeep back!!)

EXACTLY. And that bottom one shows what I mean by the funky magnet position. It works just fine! Been working fine since February or March of 2023 on both of our Jeeps.

mine have been there since September 2021. Zero issues. Even after bashing the crap out of them on Pritchett canyon. 48k miles with them. They’re great.

Mine has permanent adhesive on one side, and the other side didn't stick to anything, so painters tape worked well. I buy rolls and rolls of the various types - yellow, blue, violet, for painting, masking for plating, so the rolls are everywhere - my wife even uses it when quilting to mark for her CNC system where the needle lineup point is. So there's rolls of it in her quilting machine room.
I use painters tape like Red Green uses duct tape.

BTW - I let two of the magnets "find each other" from over 3" apart and one literally broke when they smacked into each other.
I contacted RSE support asking how much their magnets cost, explained I wasn't paying attention and left them apart - but not far enough apart and ended up breaking one - my fault. They said no problem, we'll send you out a new set. WOW, that's support.

Me too. There are half a dozen rolls of various widths on the peg board. The kids steal a ton of it though.

They’re great. I asked to buy a second set of magnets as spares, and they wouldn’t take my money. They just sent me a set.

Only the sensor wires go through the floor. If you run it under the carpet, you’d still need to go down with the motor and light plugs. So you’d still need both grommets.

Run under the truck and like said, run only the switch sensors up and the leads to the switch that runs to the dash.
Trying to out-think it will actually take more work and time.

I drilled the floor plugs for my own grommets and sealed with - wait for it - flex seal and flex tape. On the top of the floor under the carpet I used aluminum duct sealer tape.

The holes are already there - use 'em.
You need the harness under the truck to connect to the step modules in the steps and the motors anyway. And the harness runs to the batteries. Trying to run it inside means those big connectors have to go through big holes, and you have to get through the firewall.

So I got the wiring done today. No magnets on yet. But nothing works. Does it need to be calibrated? All doors open no steps deployed. Confused

Make sure the power switch you mounted under the dash near the OBD port is ON.
Make sure the fuse near the battery positive is good and in place.
You may need to pull the fuse and put it back in again.
On the other hand, these calibrate when you are done, magnets and switches in place, open and close a door, according to the latest from RSE.

Woot woot....DONE! and working! I think the hardest part of the install is to get the interior panels back in place.
