Was in Iowa city for 7th time, out of it waiting for another surgery to clean up the seeping, unhealed surgical site from October 10th when our vet called - the test results for Pickle were not good, indicating cancer had reached his lungs.
The ISU vet consult agreed the eye issue looked like lymphoma.
So in the middle of my going through surgery again, and getting back home late last night, looks like we are losing a 2nd kitty in less than a month. I get rolled into surgery literally after getting the news on Pickle's xray and blood lab results and the vet consults.

Tuvak died November 16th, the day before Barbara's birthday, and now Pickle.

The vet said that there was little that could be done except MAYBE, if it even worked, maybe making him feel better for a few days, maybe a couple of weeks - if it worked.
But they believe the lymphoma to be systemic, the eye situation just a symptom along with his no longer being able to jump up onto chairs easily, losing his balance while getting off my lap.............
He's obviously not himself and a lot weaker feeling, wobbly and all.
So the hard decision has been made for later today. 2 weeks and 2 days after the loss of Tuvak, a favorite sweety, my little buddy, we'll be saying goodbye to another perfect cat. It all had to happen right in the middle of all of the crap going on with my multiple surgeries and other medical appointments.
I already feel like shit, can't do anything - put on restrictions all over again meaning no doing anything for another 4-6 weeks, and can't even dig a hole to bury one of my favorite kitties.
Right now, the world sucks. Bone spur broken on in thumb joint, ortho appointment for that (the only fix will be surgical - they'd better not even think of "we'll fix it with pain meds and PT" or they might hear what I really think right now)

Oh, and I am supposed to be stripping Barbara's JLU down for trading in - removing the window up module and the handle I added so she can reach and pull down the rear glass - everything all at once. but wait, there's more -
And trying to get a plumber in here to add UV filters for the bacteria in our water - that's a total cluster as so few know their ass from a hole in the ground on wells and water filtration.................

I feel you Bill. I had to put down two of our cats within months of each other (years ago). Brutal. From what I understand, they're like your children. I'm very sorry.

As for cluster, early last year my son ran into a wall playing basketball and nearly broke his back. Paramedics, stretcher, the works. Next day my Dad fell and almost broke his neck. Literally near death. My wife had a surgical procedure days later. I couldn't believe it all happened at once. I leaned on the man upstairs and He got me threw it.

I said a prayer for your family Bill. :fist bump:

I'm sorry to hear that 😣

I lost my Coconut 3 weeks ago, she was 14, it's hard to say goodbye, but take solace knowing you gave them a good life and they gave you their all.

I’m really sorry to hear that. In the last several years, I lost two great dogs way too young to cancer. I lost a great cat too, but he made it to 19 and acted like a kitten/dog till the night before he passed away. Huge male gray tabby I took in as a stray kitten. I’m not a cat or small dog person, but I made an exception for him. He chose me and I didn’t fight it.

I though my luck has been rough lately, I am sorry you have me beat by a mile. I totally get how our pets touch our lives. We give them the best lives we can and that's all we can do.

We adopted 2 kittens 6 months ago. Their pregnant mother had been dumped at a friend's farm. One turned out to have a congenital condition where an extra artery bypasses his liver. Our vet is fantastic, and suspected it very early on, but the actual diagnoses and treatments required a specialist in Boston, which is 2.5 to 4.5hrs away, depending on traffic. Each visit has been an overnight, so back and forth and back and forth. He had surgery to correct it last week. We won't even talk about the cost, but if I hear another person say "Why? It's just a kitten. There are hundreds more looking for a home." I am going to punch them in the throat.

In the middle of all this, a routine blood test came back with an A1C level that was "omg go to an ER ASAP" off the charts, despite not having any symptoms, being overweight or having any family history of diabetes.

We did the same. And then not 2 months later, our vet called, and said she had a 13yr old Calico that her elderly owner could no longer care for, and elderly cats rarely leave a shelter. She was such a sweet girl we couldn't let her go to the shelter.

Sorry Bill , it's amazing sometimes how everything gets piled on you all at once. Sometimes you just wonder, why am I being tested/tortured so.

Lost our last pooch 2 years ago to Lymphoma. My wife and I decided she was going to be our last dog. Too painful losing them........on top of that we've aso had to deal with losing a child at the age of 10. If it makes you feel any better (probably not) we all get tested. I hope you come out the other end stronger . God bless man.

I think it's been years since I've seen my wife cry........... today was that day as she hugged and said goodbye to Pickle while he laid there with the IV in his leg.
I was a total mess.
Lymphoma - a cancer that literally hits all lymph nodes and acts pretty fast. Vet assured me - nothing I could have done any differently. It happens fast.
I wanted to be REALLY sure - the low platelet count, odd looking iris, blood in the iris in his left eye, loosing balance, didn't want back rubs any more, going one step a time down stairs instead of a quick trot up or down.
Vet said - like I knew - cats walk right up to the edge of a cliff and spend their final days hiding anything wrong so predators don't take advantage of their weakness. But it in this case, even if we'd known a couple of weeks or more sooner, it wouldn't have mattered. Most vet sites seem to imply that once it's there, it's a matter of weeks.
Like my wife said - 2 weeks and two days, two of the best cats we'd ever known and Pickle was literally perfect.
There's not one single thing I'd change about his purrsonality, his behavior, nothing, not a thing. He behaved, stayed off of and out of places we preferred they didn't go (but wasn't afraid to sneak into a room or closet if we opened a door) - he never jumped on our table or counter, always perfect with the litter box, always.

So sorry to hear about your other fur buddy. My chihuahua I mentioned earlier, goes in for surgery tomorrow morning, for a tumour on her leg. (Literally had it checked the day after my post). She’s had 2 wellness checks in 2 years, and nobody seemed concerned, until she licked it raw, and we had it looked at. All of a sudden, it was a problem. Cancerous, and needing possible amputation. Today, they said they can remove most of it, and leave her paw/leg. Anyway, I hope everything turns around and gets better quickly.

Prayers going out to you Bill. Stay strong. You'll get through it.

Sounds like you're having a year like I did at one time. 2011, found out in Feb that my mom had cancer. She died March 17. My wife had been fighting cancer since 2007. She died May 13. Friday the 13th. The 15th was Mothers Day. One month before her 50th birthday and two months before our 30th anniversary. Then in June, I had to have surgery which put me down for a month.

Jesus h. I’m really sorry. You’re not catching a break lately. Please let me know if there’s something I can do.
